I had long been hesitant to join this site, because I suspected my head was not where this place was at. I am a registered Independent, and I have heard the chant "This site is about electing democrats!" But y'all seem to be ok with Bernie Sanders, so I put my toe in the waters.
Sadly, I see here today, a reluctance to deal with the Israeli/Palestinian issue, when another conflagration ensues. And we very know well what the results will be--probably a ratio of 8 Israelis dead to 500 Palestinians. We know who wields the ultimate power. And we know the US government supports Israel. In words and bucks.
In the election season, both R&D parties avoided talk of climate change and gun control. Too touchy, though in the end, when Sandy sashayed across the stage, some folks were able to squeak about global warming.
Why, in heaven or hell's name, is the Israeli-Palestinian issue so verboten with "reality-based" folks? You can rat on Republicans who deny climate change, but how can you ignore the Israeli/Palestinian elephant on the table?
Imagine the possibilities if we could talk about it. Unafraid if we could be perceived as not towing the unspoken line.
In addition to being a registered Independent, I am also deeply pacifist. I think violence begets violence, and I wish all people would raise their children to forsake violence. But that is not going to happen if people do not speak out on this conflict
