So said professional football payer Jon Cornish when he accepted his award last night as the Best Canadian player in the CFL. He wasn't sure his Moms would make it to the ceremony since they started the day in Israel. Margaret Cornish, an Anglican Priest, and her wife Andrea were on vacation when the troubles broke out and were able to make it onto the last possible plane.
“It’s a tremendous thing and I wouldn’t have imagined it any other way,” he said. “They’re the most important people in my life, and having them there made the event that much more special.”

Cornish, a running back for the Calgary Stampeders will be playing in the 100th Grey Cup final this Sunday.
Cornish has been very open about his Mom and how she found the love of her life a few years back after raising 5 kids on her own. He told reporters the story of how he found out while in the locker room yesterday.
Cornish, bless his free-spirited heart, told this story after practice, to a roomful of reporters at Rogers Centre, and you could have heard a pin drop. He was remembering his own reaction to the news that his mother was gay.
"It took like 15 seconds to process, and then I was like, 'OK, that's pretty cool.' And that was it," he said.

He's outspoken in his support for gay rights and works to keep as much homophobia out of the locker room as he can. He does speak up and has joined the You can Play movement.
"People are always surprised when I tell them about my mom's situation, but for me, it's something I'm proud of. Because she'd been through a lot, and she finally found someone who she loved, and for me, there's nothing more positive in the world."
