Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

The weekend is here!  Yay!

I plan to re-arrange my kitchen and set it up in its winter configuration.  That means moving the bakeware into reach and pulling the baking ingredients in the pantry to the fore.  With only one small window unit to cool one room of the house, baking in the summer is brutal, so I avoid it.

Winter is very much the baking time of the year. Not only do I get tasty goodies to eat and share, I get a warmish house from it.

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen in the winter, so in addition to setting up the baking station, I set up a comfy place to sit and to set up the computer. The kitchen will be the warmest place in the house.

Since that's not a 2 day project, I will finish the winterizing and final harvests of the yard.

Since my yard grows and grows, I will robably still be mowing as late as January, and start up mowing in March.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I've just had my best Black Friday (8+ / 0-)

since I began selling online in 2008! Mostly thanks to Kos Katalogue, too - today I sold 3 jewelry pieces and a shawl from my Zibbet store (linked in my sig line) plus 3 items from my p.o.d. store. And that's on top of a good sales run last week :)

So know I'm busy making new things to replenish my stock! I'm nearly finished with another winter scarf, just need to add fringe, and I also made up a new chunky necklace and bracelet. Hopefully I'll get the pictures & listings up soon. I'm also working on two new decorated journals and hopefully I can get the latest afghan put together while someone can still buy it for the holiday. Then, more scarves ...

I decided this year to earmark my crafting monies for special needs, like pootie health care. That's priority #1. Miss LuvLee, being 13, is way overdue for a thorough check-up. The clinic I use has a special Senior Pootie Check-up package that costs (are you ready for this) $350 and checks them out from one end to the other. They say all the tests if done separately would cost about $600, so it's a savings but it's still a lot of money. I'm happy to say I've brought in enough from the craft sales that I've reached that goal, so I will see if I can get an appointment sometime next week. It will be good for me to know what's going with LuvLee - she's doing pretty but she is showing her age, and like any hovering pet mom, I worry.

Just don't tell LuvLee she'll be going to the v-e-t some time soon, k? LuvLee does nawt liek the idea!

Nothing is growing in Chicago.  It's 26 degrees now.  brrrr.

We were supposed to go out to dinner with friends tonight, but she called and asked if we could go tomorrow instead.  So, I'm making the little Thanksgiving dinner for my hubby and me tonight.

Today is small business Saturday, so I may go to a small business and buy something.  I just have to figure out where to go.

I just remembered that yesterday was my one year anniversary on DK.  I'm not a new noob anymore.

    Have a great day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

Caedy and I are the only ones awake right now, so having a quiet morning. Dori has gotten her wake up scritches and has been fed. Freya has taken over Caedy's bed and is napping.

My left eye started itching and aching yesterday. I don't know what I got in it, but today it's still bright red and gunky. It doesn't feel like I've been punched any more though. Vision in it is a bit blurry though. I'm going to have to put visene in it, but it's so cold lol.

54 degrees right now, supposed to go up into the mid 60's. We had pork chops yesterday for dinner. Tonight is turkey casserole. Tomorrow I'm planning on making a meat pie with left over roast beef.

So if I'm not on much today again it's because my left eye is still unfocused and reading is giving me a headache. But we're ok.

Gad... who turned the thermostat down in Florida?

BTW, read through some of your diaries (they've about approved my questionnaire for wheelchairs) -- learned so MUCH from you.  Mostly, what I learned is how little I know about all of this.

      •  Yay for the approval! (2+ / 0-)

      •  I'm glad they approved your questionnaire! (0+ / 0-)

Be sure you send it, and I'll get Dad on it. The visene is warm enough now to use. This morning I was having trouble warming up myself. I don't have the room heater dug out yet (it's chilly it's not cold yet, that's next month). Though the $125 electric bill this month was nice! It should be even lower next month.

I'm glad my diaries helped you a bit. If you have any further questions feel free to Kosmail me. Experiencing it first hand plus having gotten my OTA degree has given me some interesting perspectives LOL.

          •  They keep raising the rates. (0+ / 0-)

Ours would be $70 in the winter when we first moved in here. Higher in the summer because we're running the window units. But we've got 5 of us home, usually at least 4 of us. So I guess we pull more power too. But some of it is they've been raising the rates every year or so. Electric is high in this area.

today, we have sun and clouds, and Lake Effect Snow (LES) bands from Lake Erie are reaching us because the wind is so strong.  We get them from Lake Ontario when there is a strong North wind, but today the wind is from the west.

and again to pay my car off when I realized there was plenty of time to get to my bank where I am allocated five free money orders per month.  It was raining miserably.

I have to go out again today for catfood, and the library.  I may pop into a couple of small local shops that I've been meaning to go back to for a month or more - both of them are near the library.

I have holds on four books at the library that have actually arrived and are being processed.  The processing takes forever!  Two of them have been in release for a full month now!

It doesn't seem to be raining today.
