well, she's already a star... her two hits have been high on the music charts in the u.k. and in the u.s. - she is fulfilling a dream with her first tour - starting tonite in london. she is from l.a. but hails from texarkana - a woman who has a dream and is making it happen.
i know frankie - she is an amazing singer and dancer who is now producing her cd and show in london tonite. she hires other artists - she is doing everything right AND she is self-funding this thing!
i met frankie while working at acura - she is a gearhead. she is hired by top automotive companies to teach about the new products by doing the intros of new models of cars: acura, bmw, etc we started talking because she travels with her papillon named mimi introducing new models of cars. our conversations continued the next year when we left the guys at the acura showroom scratching their heads over our conversation on torque and why the unibody tl couldn't pull a horse trailer (heh heh - gearheads ALWAYS leave others scratching their heads).
anyhow, frankie was doing what so many artists do while working on "instant success" and finally it is coming her way! come below the squiggle for a sample of her music and how you can be a part of the magic!
as i said earlier, frankie is an amazing singer - her single "animal" (a dance mix released in 2011) played very well in both the uk and the us and her new release, "all right" is also terrific. she writes her own music and has put together an amazing team of dancers and is doing her own production.
for those of us in theatre and music and art, it seems that the path to getting known in this day and age is to do it yourself! when i was young, there was cousin brucie, wolfman jack and many more djs to give new artists a wide set of ears. now, it seems that to succeed, the artist has to also be a producer, manager and more instead of just singing and dancing.
is this how art survives? we know from our own kossacks who have self-published on unbound - who have taken pledges to survive to get the words on paper... well, this is what frankie is doing to get her music heard and seen?
she really IS "that good!" - so check out her songs if you like dance mix and good lyrics and good singing... here's her facebook page, a taste of her dance mix (this 67 yr old LIKES it!)-
i love the lyrics... for "all right" - after the into, listen carefully!
and here is the site where you can help this artist and her dancers continue hitting the charts! i'm pledging (music for the soul from another "survivor") - i want her cd - and i can't think of a better way to make sure artists get a chance to perform! and, what the heck, if you ever need a question answered about your car, send her a message on fb, she can do that, too!
ps: you know what drives me absolutely crazy? another friend, kaye bohler, is also a "self funder" for all her own albums - and now is working on "handle the curves". b.b.king calls HER one of the up and coming "blues women" on sirius, her songs get played but she, too, has to pay her own way! here is kaye's facebook page...
something is seriously out of whack when talented artists and writers have to pay their own way to be heard. we need more indie radio stations, more indie bookstores, more indie - period! here's to the demise of cumulus and may the stations be bought up by locals who put real music back on the air!
both of these amazing women are working with top musicians, mixers, dancers - they are doing everything right - but that costs money. it sucks! i know the old days included payola, scandal, etc., but it seems that this is the greater scandal - the musicians/artists/writers in america have all but been written off if they can't fund themselves. something is seriously wrong when we are deprived of these talents.
...end of rant... now go enjoy the music!
pps: neither one of 'em knows i'm writing this. i'm just fed up that real talent doesn't have backing any more - but... WE get to be the ones to help put these artists over the top! maybe that's a good thing....
4:08 AM PT: this is great "packing" music, btw - i'm halfway done moving and needed inspiration to keep me going. hope to have finished the move by tuesday... with good music, it is much easier!
4:33 AM PT: gaack - corrected all mistakes i found - moving sucks but at least the music keeps me moving... duh... ... ... pun unintentional.
