Photos show Rosebud Indian Reservation residents thanking Daily Kos donors for propane and heaters last winter
I am reading these propane diaries and there can never be too many. We must not let this outrage continue. This is a disgrace in the first degree and it is up to all of us to bring awareness and help to these beautiful Native American People. This is America, not a third world country. We can help warm them as they struggle. It is the very least we can do for such an impoverished people. Please, it is past time to do more and these too are overlooked veterans and families of veterans of all wars.
I have read passionate diary pleas from Aji, Navajo and others.
I read every word from Land of Enchanment and all who are working on this project. The propane project. This is a very very serious situation and WE can do more. My husband, a Native American, cherokee, has told me that for a people who have every reason to be bitter against America, have proven time and time again indeed war after war to be the most patriotic. We need only to think of the Code Talkers. Has America forgotten Jim Thorpe..All American?
Let us not forget Ira Hayes.

Ira Hamilton Hayes (January 12, 1923 January 24, 1955) was a Pima Native American and an American Marine who was one of the six men immortalized in the iconic photograph of the flag raising on Iwo Jima during World War II. Hayes was an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community in Sacaton, Arizona, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve on August 24, 1942. He trained as a Paramarine and saw action in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. On February 19, 1945, Hayes participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima and fought in the subsequent battle for the island. On February 23, Hayes, together with fellow Marines Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, Franklin Sousley, and Mike Strank; and Navy Corpsman John Bradley; raised the American flag over Mount Suribachi, an event photographed by Joe Rosenthal.
As a result of Rosenthal's photograph, Hayes and the others became national heroes in the United States

I can tell you that I have been very cold before. It was many years ago and it was in the Tennessee hills. We had no money for propane, my ex husband and me. The Reagan years were not easy and just recovering from cervical cancer was not easy either. My former husband and me lived very far out in a rural area and we actually killed a rooster for food. I have seen hard times before. I am not exactly a Mitt Romney now but I can tell you I am in much better shape than the majority of people living at Pine Ridge and the beautiful people freezing in the Dakota's. I have and am raising grandchildren, now adopted. That feat is a not easy either but I cannot imagine the living conditions in not just a sandwiched family but one of a Dagwood proportion.
Watch this Video please and then tell me when the lady hands you some change back from a cola or lottery ticket or even loaf of bread, that you won't think what a little change could do for these people who now according to Aji's diary has a mortality rate that is staggering.
It is one thing to die early but to never really live in some sort of liveable condition for the short lifespan is insult to injury in THESE United States.
We owe the Lakota Tribe and every other Native American for loving this country enough to defend it. We owe them a decent place to live. We owe them for sacrafices made past and present. The better angels that rests upon our shoulders need to warm the little bodies shivering and warm the hands of the frail and fragile.
These are Americans. Proud Americans. There are ways we can give this Holiday season and this is one wonderful way.

Of course, all the propane in the world won't do you any good without a heater. Many families don't even have working heaters or ones that work safely. Every year, there are house fires as a result of malfunctioning heaters that people can't afford to repair. So if you're flush or you have a few friends who can put your dollars together, a heater would be really welcome this Thanksgiving season.
