So far you've survived Thanksgiving, the Black Friday crowds, and the carpal tunnel syndrome triggered by Cyber Monday. Unfortunately, more perils await you this holiday season, so let's be careful out there (and at home!)
A is for arcing on wires rubbed bare
Please check out those lights with particular care!
B for the burns, watch that stove, for Pete's sake!
When roasting that turkey and baking that cake
C for the cookies and candies and stuff
If you're diabetic, this season's quite rough
D is for dogs who'll eat tinsel or pine
Preprogram your phone with your vet's office line
E, eye protection when power tools run
Because wearing an eye patch is really no fun
F is for frostbite on fingers and toes
Jack Frost is out gunning for more than your nose
G for game pieces that kids can ingest
Just pack them away if you know what is best
H, heart attacks as old folks shovel snow
And middle aged folks: just don't do that stuff! D'Oh!
I for the ice where you'll fall as you slip
So sand it and salt it and don't break a hip!
J for job stress if you work at a store
Your health's too important for you to ignore!
K for the knives that can cut you - beware!
Please handle your cooking and packing with care
L for the ladder that sways to and fro
It sure is a risk just to have lights that glow
M for monoxide that kills many folk
From heaters unvented - this threat is no joke
N is for nicotine, please don't backslide!
You kicked that bad habit, a reason for pride!
O, occupational hazards we fear
For hardworking folks at this tough time of year
P for purse-snatchers that lurk at the mall
So zip to your car, lock the doors, one and all!
Q for the questions on food that's dee-lish
Like "are you allergic to peanuts or fish?"
R is for rugs that can slither and slide
Landing holiday visitors on their backside
S is for screwdrivers and other such tools
"Some assembly required" is no task for fools!
T is for toddlers who crawl 'neath your tree
Where bright shiny objects will probably be
U, Urgent Care: do you know where it's at?
Could you get someone there at the drop of a hat?
V for the volume on TVs and games
It's way, way too loud (but I'm not naming names!)
W for the weather: will it snow or sleet?
Have you packed good clothes and warm boots for your feet?
X for the x-rays you'll need if you fall
From ladders and roofs - make that 9-1-1- call!
Y for that yule log that burns through the night
Has your chimney been cleared of its creosote blight?
Z, zero injuries, my wish for you!
So please take it easy, whatever you do!
