Currently military women who are victims of rape and become pregnant are to pay for their abortion out of their own pocket since it is not covered in their health care plan because taxpayers! It will stay that way if the evermore so righteous Senator Blunt has a say, yes of the Blunt amendment fame and Todd Akins best-est buddy. Read the legitimate email reply below the fold. For some reason this just made me, well, furious. Emphasis and sarcasm entirely mine.
Dear WTFurious,
Thank you for contacting me about Senator Shaheen's amendment to the Department of Defense Authorization bill.
The health and well-being of our troops (apparently only the male troops) has been one of my highest priorities in Congress. I have consistently supported proposals to give our men and women in uniform the resources they need to protect our freedom. However, I strongly oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions.
Congress should focus on the safety and security of our troops and the most effective use of taxpayer dollars to defend our nation – not expanding taxpayer funding of abortion.
While we may disagree, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind should Senator Shaheen's amendment or other legislation affecting our troops come to the Senate floor for a vote. (cough..bullshit...cough)
Again, thank you for contacting me. I look forward to continuing our conversation on Facebook (www.facebook.com/SenatorBlunt) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/RoyBlunt) about the important issues facing Missouri and the country. I also encourage you to visit my website (blunt.senate.gov) to learn more about where I stand on the issues and sign-up for my e-newsletter.
Sincere regards,
Roy Blunt
United States Senator
