On Thursday, Governor Romney will have a private lunch at the White House with President Obama in the Private Dining Room. It will be the first opportunity they have had to visit since the election," Carney said in a statement.
It will be their first meeting since the election. In his election night victory speech, Obama made a post-election overture to Romney
"I also look forward to sitting down with Governor Romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward," Obama said in his Chicago speech.
Romney's post-defeat tour has included such highlights as filling his tank with gas, going to see Twilight, going to Disneyland, and hugging Ann for Thanksgiving in his kitchen. It will be capped off tomorrow with a visit to the White House where he meets the winner, President Obama.
I wonder if President Obama will tell the Governor to please proceed, again. It's a nice gesture and President Obama specifically pointed out Romney's Salt Lake Olympic experience as something that could be helpful.
There are certain aspects of Governor Romney's record and his ideas that I think could be very helpful," he said, specifically citing Romney's leadership of the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games.
Not really sure how this could be as helpful as, say, Romneycare was in giving birth to Obamacare. Maybe Romney will divulge secretly the truth about his taxes (that he didn't pay) or that
secret plan for getting out of Afghanistan.
If I had been beaten so thoroughly as Romney was I'd want to stay as far away as possible so as not to relive the regret, but he probably believes he really does have something to offer. I'm sure President Obama won't gloat too much.
