It seems there isn't a day that goes by without Republicans doing something that defies all connection with reality. The outrage of the day comes from our counterparts in the conservative blogosphere, who are tired of being pushed around by Democrats regarding the proposed filibuster reform:
“Remember the really nasty bully on the school playground?” read a post at RedState.com. “The guy who would use force and intimidation to beat up the other kids? And on that rare occasion when he was actually losing, he’d just change the rules. By brute force. Because he could… a slimier, more vicious, infinitely more dangerous bully has now emerged on the national scene. And his name is Harry Reid. He’s the guy who’s trying to change the Senate rules. Illegally and unconstitutionally. By brute force. Because he can.”
Who would've guessed the Anti-Christ would appear in the form of Harry Reid? A simple facepalm just isn't adequate.
Or how about this little gem:
"Harry Reid is an obtuse and tyrannical majority leader, whose strong-arm tactics have compelled Republicans to threaten or launch a record number of filibusters,” summarized Townhall.com’s Guy Benson.
Typically for Republicans, cause and effect are completely ass-backwards: It was
Republican "strong-arm tactics" delivered by way of "a record number of filibusters,"
unprecedented, in fact, that was the
cause of this long-overdue and rather mild change of senate rules. We want people to do their job and
govern.
This same gentleman has one more thought related to that governing thing:
“Now that Reid is positioning his caucus to blow up long-standing filibuster rules and taking direct aim at the minority’s ability to influence the agenda, the political temperature is rising, and Republicans are ratcheting up retaliatory threats.”
In other words, their ability to grind the
Democratic agenda to a complete fucking halt is being threatened, so they're going to defend themselves by doing
more of it.
So the perpetrator becomes the victim who's defending the crime by way of further perpetration. Or something.
See, Mitch McConnell and his merry band of clowns are still clinging to his failed "one-term president" policy. Seeing how well that worked-out in spite of all of the patriotic efforts of Republicans to "pour sugar in the gas tank" of this country they claim to care so much about, he's not about to give-up the ability to continue making our lives fucking miserable for yet another four years.
I can't help but laugh when I recall which party was doing the bullying back in 2005 by threatening the "nuclear option" in the fight over judicial filibusters. Republicans.
Just when I started thinking the idiocy in this article would never end, a bit of sanity comes to the rescue:
The Daily Kos is offering a petition to turn the filibuster into a “talking filibuster,” which would require members of Congress to filibuster through likely lengthy speeches. David Waldman wrote in a snark-laden post on that site that Republicans would still have avenues of opposition available, so the GOP is manufacturing a crisis.
In case you missed it above, here's the
Daily Kos Filibuster Reform Petition you can sign.
