We've heard from several of our readers that many of you are contacting the Congress to demand that there be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. Many are forwarding the blogs to their friends and members of their organizations. Others are re-tweeting our tweets.
It is essential that President Obama and Democrats in Congress not make cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid in order to let George Bush tax cuts expire.
Our nation desperately needs the Bush tax cuts over $250,000 to expire to avoid the looming fiscal crisis.
But we cannot countenance tax breaks for the wealthy in exchange for the death and/or misery of our seniors and disabled people.
Bush gave those tax cuts for no good reason, just his own political fortunes, a desire to starve our federal government, and a favor to his richest friends.
On the other hand Social Security was started in the 1930's to keep our seniors from dying in desperate poverty. Medicare and Medicaid were started in 1965 make sure seniors and disabled people have medical care when they need it.
Those tax cuts over $250,000 are not important. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are essential for the lives of many of our fellow Americans.
How could a Republican be "pro-life" if (s)he is willing to sacrifice programs that keep people alive for the sake of tax cuts that the rich don't need?
Saving these programs is essential to our campaign and movement to reduce inequality. No one deserves to be filthy rich when others are starving or dying for lack of healthcare.
Please call your Senators and Members of the House of Representatives and tell them no cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid!
