If you are like me, and don't like to wait on the phone and battle with the scripts the customer service folks have to read, and the repetitive "I'll be happy to assist you with that", and "Have I answered all your questions", I suggest you use the chat option on Macy's website to get your Macy's card cancelled.

It took only a few minutes and I was able to get some work done in between the long pauses between responses.

Here's the transcript of my session, which I thought would be of interest to you.

Customer Chat Transcript
Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...
You have been connected to Inez C.
Inez C:  Welcome to Macy's live chat service.
Me:  I would like to cancel my Macys credit card due to your use of and support for Donald Trump.
Inez C:  I would be happy to assist with your inquiry.
Inez C:  Macy’s marketing and merchandise offerings are not representative of any political position. Many of the individuals associated with products sold at Macy's – or at any retailer, for that matter – express personal opinions that are not related to the merchandise we sell or to the philosophies of our company. In our merchandise assortment, we strive to meet our customers' expectations for unique and interesting products across a broad array of stÿles, categories and brands. This allows our customers to choose what they prefer. A longtime focus of Macy's holiday advertising has been to celebrate the season's spirit of generosity and goodwill through our ongoing "Believe" campaign, and that is the sole message of our holiday television commercials.
Me:  Regardless, I believe you should drop Trump. And, since you are not disassociating yourself with him, I will have to disassociate with your company.
Me:  You are free to choose your spokespeople, I am free to choose whom I shop from.
Inez C:  I do apologize. I would be happy to assist you. May I please have your account number?
Inez C:  Thank you, for verification purposes, may I please have your name and address as they appear on your account as well as the last 4 digits of your social security number and your date of birth?
Inez C:  Thank you for verifying your information. Please hold one moment while I review your account.
Inez C:  You are a valued Macy's customer and I regret that this issue caused you to cancel your credit account. I assure you that this is not representative of the high level of service we strive to provide. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience you have experienced.
Inez C:  I have closed your account as requested. Should you wish to reopen your account in the future, please contact us again and we will be happy to review your request.
Inez C:  Do you have any additional questions I may assist you with today?
Me:  If you dump Trump immediately, I will reopen my credit card account, and start to shop at Macy's again. The longer you keep him on, the longer you will not have my business. Please pass this on to your CEO. There are consequences to his decisions. Hopefully, his decision will not affect your job.
Me:  bye
Inez C:  Again, I do apologize and I will let my manager know about your decision.
Inez C:  Have I been able to answer all of your questions today?
Me:  yes, thanks, bye
Inez C:  You're welcome, thank you for chatting with Macy's. Have a good day!

Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
