You may remember Scott Lively and his meddling in the affairs of the Ugandan government with his activism against gay people in that country. Lively played a pivotal role in inspiring the Kill the Gays Bill currently under consideration in the Ugandan Parliament. He has repeatedly denied his culpability in the matter, but it doesn't take much to prove him a liar. Under mounting criticism, Lively announced he was withholding his support of the bill until the death penalty provision was removed. Apparently the language has been removed to his satisfaction and he penned an article on his blog Scott Lively Ministries giving his full endorsement to the revised bill which now only calls for life imprisonment for gay people and their allies.
Just because Secular Humanist America began to decriminalize sexual sins in civilian law starting in the early 1960s doesn’t mean criminal sanctions against homosexuality are “un-Christian.” Indeed, given the enormous damage to our culture from the so-called sexual revolution, it was obviously a big mistake for us to have done this. Knowing what we know now it is arguably more “un-Christian” to support the status quo than to support a return to the legal framework of the 1940s and 50s regarding sexual misbehavior.
Second, in all the media-driven hysteria about the Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Bill one glaring fact has been consistently omitted (despite my having pointed it out to nearly every “journalist” who has interviewed me). The fact is that Ugandan law is typical of most African law in that it tends to be very harsh in the letter, but very lenient in the application. I doubt very much that anyone arrested under the new law (if it passes) will receive anything close to the jail terms allowed for in the bill.
Third, and most importantly, there is one easy, guaranteed method of protecting oneself from ever being subject to the Anti-Homosexuality law in Uganda: Don’t Commit Sodomy! We all seem to forget, in the dense propaganda haze of American popular opinion, that homosexuality is defined by voluntary sexual acts. Homosexuals are no more compelled to commit sodomy with each other than a married man is compelled to cheat on his wife.
Oh no, Mr. Lively, there is nothing un-Christian about supporting a bill that stops short of killing gay people in favor of putting them in a jail cell for the remainder of their lives. I am sure Christ himself would slap you on the back and buy you a beer for that expression of your Christian love.
You long for the 40s and 50s when people were so terrified of fine church people such as yourself that they hid in the closet to live a miserable existence lest they be discovered and face the hostilities of the narrow-minded society your type created. Can't we just go back to those days, please? Wally, alert the Beaver that you are back in business.
It is a comfort to me that you believe that the Ugandan government will probably not actually put gays in jail for life. Maybe robbing them of only 10-20 years of their freedom will learn 'em and satisfy your burning hatred. And if the Ugandan government sees fit to apply the full force of the law? Well, your third point drives home the fact that you feel they deserve that too. After all, they committed, gasp, sodomy. Simply unforgivable!
Let's talk about your third point on sodomy. Does the fact that the lesbians aren't out there having nearly as much sodomy let them off the hook? What about the straight people who enjoy a bit of sodomy. You know straight people do that too, don't you Scotty? Or are you so insulated from human sexuality that anything beyond the missionary position is something you can't even wrap your small warped mind around?
From your last sentence quoted above, I assume your next trip to Uganda will be to whip people into a righteous frenzy about adultery. If you are successful, that should keep you employed in the hate business for a while longer helping Uganda to craft legislation that puts the cheaters in the hoosegow for the rest of their lives too. It's a great way to make a living, right Mr. Lively? Glory!
