A friend reports singing these political carols at a local congressman's office the other day. The group of nine wore Santa hats and suggests others conduct a similar action.

[To the tune of “O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree’]
O Congressmen, O Congressmen,
Here is the people’s mandate
O Congressmen, O Congressmen,
Repeal the wealthy’s tax breaks.
Please make them pay all their fair share.
Congressmen, we know you care!
O Congressmen, O Congressmen,
It is the people’s mandate.

O Congressmen, O Congressmen,
We’re tired of all the talking.
O Congressmen, O Congressmen,
We want your vote, we’re calling.
Please do it now, please use your might.
Let’s get it done, you know it’s right.
O Congressmen, O Congressmen,
It is the people’s mandate.

[To the tune of “Good King Wenceslas”]
The fiscal cliff is looming large
And your country’s waiting.
We demand you represent
What voters clearly stated.
Cut the tax breaks for the rich
Don’t argue with the election.
Those with stalling attitude,
Are hurting this great nation.

[To Tune of “Deck the Halls”]
Vote for income tax equality
 Fa La La La La, La La, La La
Cuts for millionaires are folly
Fa La La La La, La La, La La
Billions more for them – outrageous!
Fa La La La La, La La, La La
Treat their cap gains more like wages
Fa La La La La, La La, La La

The 1% makes more than ever
Fa La La La La, La La, La La
Time to act, its now or never!
Fa La La La La, La La, La La
We’re all for no wasteful spending
Fa La La La La, La La, La La
Tax cuts for the rich need ending!
Fa La La La La, La La, La La

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    I always found this Christmas Carol kind of political just as it is. Especially the third verse:

    O Holy Night!
    The stars are brightly shining,
    It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth;
    Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
    'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
    A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
    For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn;
    Fall on your knees,
    Oh, hear the angels voices!
    O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
    O night, O holy night,
    O night divine!

    Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
    With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand;
    So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
    Here came the wise men from Orient land.
    The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
    In all our trials born to be our Friend;
    He knows our need,
    To our weakness is no stranger.
    Behold your King, before Him lowly bend!
    Behold your King, before Him lowly bend!

    Truly He taught us to love one another;
    His law is love and His gospel is peace;
    Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
    And in His name all oppression shall cease.

    Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
    Let all within us praise His holy name;
    Christ is the Lord,
    Oh, praise His name forever!
    His pow'r and glory evermore proclaim!
    His pow'r and glory evermore proclaim!
