I've got to rant on this one. I'm watching both CBS Evening News and Hardball, and on both shows the media is trying to link the tragedy in Connecticut with Democrats accepting Boehner's latest offer on the Fiscal Cliff. Somehow, Obama and Boehner should cut a quick deal on the federal budget to help heal the nation after the massacre of the innocents. Obama and the Democrats should not look like partisans during this time of tragedy.
WTF????
The United States government's fiscal matters and Connecticut shootings are linked? Really? Since when? A lunatic walks into a school and kills people, and this means Democrats should capitulate on chaining the CPI on Social Security, cut Medicare, AND raise the eligibility age. Somehow, screwing the poor and the elderly will help us all heal after this tragedy in Connecticut.
Joy Reid actually mouthed the platitude that no one wants to look like a bad guy during this tragedy. How is standing up for the poor and elderly looking like a bad guy? I'd say lying down and letting some of the most vulnerable in our society take a financial hit is a sure sign of being a prick.
The issue in the Connecticut massacre is GUN CONTROL, not what the Republicans get as a trophy in the fiscal mess that they helped create.
The only link I can see between the two issues is that the Beltway media wants the Democrats to abandon what few principles they may have for making another bipartisan "deal." The message is this - Democrats should be "adults" and cave on another issue as a sacrifice to the gods of bipartisanship.
Just like Democrats have done with gun control.
But the Beltway media is not making that link. Instead, they are coming up with a grotesque connection between a madman killing children and Boehnor scoring political points on the federal budget negotiations. This is so macabre and bizarre that I had to blow off some steam.
