Protecting tax cuts for those who make from $250,000 up to $400,000 (about 4.9 % of the income over $250,000) and effectively reducing (perhaps by not a lot) the payments to those on social security (based on a new measure of cost of living raises). I understand the President is trying to include something to shield those with the lowest amounts or getting SSI from the reduced COLA, and I understand he would get unemployment extension that would help many. But is it moral as is?
Boehner is rejecting it and having the House vote on a bill to extend Bush tax cuts up to $1M in income. So now they will negotiate between $400,000 and $1,000,000 for tax cut extension (if Boehner gets his way). And more cuts.
Protecting 4.9% of income for those making over $250,000 seems wrong. Especially if we cut those who have little to make up for it.
I hope this plan fails.
