Who could have possibly seen this coming???????

Seriously folks, for four years now President Obama has been begging the Republicans to give him a chance to demonstrate what a responsible and serious centrist he is by reaching a Grand Bargain that cuts social spending, especially Social Security and Medicare.

The Catfood Commission was a total failure, but that didn't deter the President one bit.  He continued to preemptively negotiate against himself every chance he got throughout his first term.  President Obama said as recently as the debates that his positions on Social Security and Medicare weren't much different from Mitt Romney's.

This was all fully disclosed, and Democrats made an informed decision to renominate and reelect President Obama.

Anyone who is surprised by the announcement today is simply delusional.

By all means, take action against this.  Call your congressional representatives.

Heck, your most effective action might be to call a Republican congressperson and pretend to be a tea party person who is opposed to any kind of bargain whatsoever.  When you get down to it, that's probably the only thing that's saved us from Social Security and Medicare cuts up to this point.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

by the Right for the same deal?

I swear, you want to know what is wrong with the United States today and why it is a declining power?  Look no further than this latest little opera.

It may be a shock some here and those on RedState, but agreements are reached through negotiation and compromise.  It is what makes those agreements sustainable and every agreement lays the ground for the next agreement.  That is how healthy governments and stable countries operate.

All you are complaining about is that Obama and the Dems are not as big a bunch of assholes as the Republicans have been.

Tax and Spend I can understand. I can even understand Borrow and Spend. But Borrow and give Billionaires tax cuts? That I have a problem with.

Now is exactly the time for people on the left side of the aisle to SCREAM. Chained CPI might be the least objectionable of the proposed cuts, but you know what, before we talk about ANY cuts, how about if we treat all income as income?

There's $800 billion in additional revenue, right there, accomplished through closing a gross loophole that rewards the affluent (and which they've learned to turn into a way of life).

  •  Boehner has already rejected it (9+ / 0-)

The 47% also "pay all the taxes that are legally required and not a dollar more" but when Romney does it he thinks it's a virtue, while when they do it, he thinks they are deadbeats.

Medicare was on the table once, it is now off.
Chained CPI, which is the weakest entitlement cut is on the table now. Durbin says no way.

      The dance continues.

That I have more faith in the congressional dems than my president at the moment on this topic.

Well, that and the tea party delegation that won't take yes for an answer.

accept it. Complain, loudly, because the more the base screams, the more strength the President has. But don't forget how many times we have thought Obama had betrayed us only to find that he was just setting up the GOP for a fall.

REPUBLICANS ffs. Especially if you have a Repug congress critter.

Geez, the willingness of people on this site to crucify their President on the basis of some unnamed source reported by the media which has no credibility, especially after we've seen these things work out before (these negotiations aren't a straight-line process, ya know) ... well, that's just effing embarrassing.
