VA Governor Bob McDonnell has joined TX Gov. Rick Perry in considering arming teachers in response to Newtown.
McDonnell told WTOP radio that it was a "reasonable discussion" to be had, and suggested that if the principal at Sandy Hook elementary school was armed, "perhaps" carnage could have been avoided.
"I know there's been a knee-jerk reaction against that, but I think there should at least be a discussion," he said. "If people were armed, not just a police officer, but other school officials who were trained and chose to have a weapon, certainly there'd have been an opportunity to stop aggressors coming into the school.
(Of course, McDonnell cut $1B from public health and $646M from education from VA's budget, so it's not clear where the funds for those guns would come from.)
But as a teacher and supervisor in NYC schools for 20 years, I can only say, "What the f*&k?" That is the very last thing a teacher should be responsible for.
McDonnelll, of course, has gained notoriety for his support of a transvaginal ultrasound bill. When word got out about that, McDonnell switched to the less invasive "jelly on the belly" method.
VA State Sen. Louis Lucas then named him Governor VP -- the "VP" not for Vice President, but for Vaginal Probe.
But Governor VP has aspirations higher than "VP" -- he's been "mentioned" as a Presidential candidate for 2016.
Based on his arm teachers and Transvag stances, I see him as a GOP primary frontrunner.
