As usual, Something horrible has happened, and our old friend Joe Lieberman has decided that, surprise surprise, the fault is that of VIDEO GAMES!!!!

This is of course great news for EA.  Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has already surpassed one Billion dollars worth of sales, and the endless media attention on the game will undoubtedly lead to even higher profits.

But won't the poor senator please think of the paper and pencil game companies?

(A plea on the flip)

We had it pretty good in the 80s with the proliferation of the Satanic Ritual Abuse scares.    Sales were up, people were talking, and the games got a whole new association with coolness.

But then, you kinda started ignoring us.  C'mon, Dungeons and Dragons is up to 4th edition now!  They even started calling Demons and Devils, Demons and Devils again!  Surely you can see that the obsession with slaying monsters and gathering loot is clearly what led the killer to assemble a huge arsenal of... modern... uhm... weapons.

Ok, maybe that one ran out of gas when it was determined that they really had nothing to do with... OH WAIT!!! Vampire games did it!  They're still Roleplaying, and in the 90's they were absolute proof that anyone involved in them was in fact a secret blood drinker who killed!

Oh wait.  Vampires sparkle now.  And they're considered a good role model for girls because of the monogamous no-sex otherwise relationship...  That whole abuse thing... well that's just cool.

So really guys, let's give some thought to all those groups that haven't been demonized recently.  Like Rock and Roll.  You KNOW you want to go after rock.  I mean, look at Nickleback...   Of course we can blame THAT one on Canada.

C'mon guys.  Album sales are down, we're counting on you!  I mean it's not like OUR fault all the songs sound the same.

3:20 PM PT: Thanks to JesseCW who reminded me that there is far more blame to go around.  Comic Books are Evil Too!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
