Dear Conservative Friend,

Well, I suppose it was inevitable, since we operate on opposite ends of the political spectrum. I'm a die-hard liberal, and you're well...a die hard conservative. It's natural that our views would clash quite a bit. However, I am sorry that it came to this, since I do like you as a person.

Although I feel that I must point out a few things.

Continues past the orange divider thingy.

Before you defriended me, you said that I came across as hateful because I posted liberal memes on my Facebook wall while you quite frequently posted conservative memes. I will confess that perhaps I became a bit overzealous in my posting, and I did post the occasional snarky comment along with it. Which, I suppose, was the equivalent of waving a flag in front of a bull to you. We are both equally loyal to our parties.

The thing is, I find it a tad hypocritical that you call me hateful, considering the actions of your own party.

You haven't been exactly subtle in your dislike of the Democratic party, and I'm not exactly subtle in mine for the Republican party. The thing is, my friend, I'm sad to say, is that while I do acknowledge that there ARE valid criticisms that can be leveled at my chosen party, like the whole fiscal cliff deal...which is another rant for another diary, I'm afraid that you've chosen to hate us for all the wrong reasons.

For starters, you still believe that Obama was born in Kenya and is some kind of secret Muslim, in spite of the fact that those claims have been refuted. Repeatedly. Obama even released his birth certificate to the public. You say he gives off an “evil vibe” and you and your ilk compare him to Hitler. While I and the rest of the Democrats all breathed a  collective sigh of relief on election night, I remember how you wailed and gnashed your teeth the night Romney lost to Obama and opined that we would all be subjected to another four years of socialism and poverty.

You do nothing but criticize liberals and  Obama, griping about him not taking accountability for Bengazi, trying to tie him to a scandal that doesn't even remotely exist. You blame the liberals for all of the country's current ills, when in reality, I'm sorry to say, nearly everything that went wrong with our country from 2000 to the present day can be laid at the feet of the Republicans.

But noooo, you'll only plug your ears and yell “lalalalala I can't hear you!”

Denial is a powerful thing, is it not? You had that exact reaction when I said that Bush Jr. was one of our worst presidents in history, if not THE worst. You hold him up as some kind of conservative hero, when he and his cronies trashed the economy and our country to hell and back, leaving us to clean up the destruction left in his wake. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You said he was a “real man.” Uh huh. If he was a “real man” then explain why he was a draft dodger? I'd love to hear you answer that one. The mental gymnastics to explain that would be interesting to see. And if he was a “real man” then why did he fail to catch Osama Bin Laden? I bet it really sticks in your craw that Obama succeeded where Bush failed in finally eliminating that evil bastard.

If you want to criticize, how about starting with your own party? What about holding your own elected officials accountable? Oh, that's right, I forgot, your party is completely freaking perfect. You seem to believe that your party can do no wrong. That they are beyond reproach. With your rose colored glasses, you honestly believe that they're the good guys, and my side's the bad guys, always and without fail. You call out Obama, and yet, you remain silent on the actions of YOUR party leaders. You refuse to take them to task, so we, the Democratic party has to do it for you. Because if we don't, who will?

I pointed out that the Republicans have declared outright war on women, and you basically chastised me for being a silly goose when I said this. You said that the whole women's rights thing was a sham to scare people into voting for Obama, because he's nothing more than a slick snake oil salesman. Well, I'm pretty sure it was Todd “legitimate rape” Akin and Richard “rape babies are a gift from” Mourdock that helped scare women into voting for Obama. Your side did a pretty good job of making us women run screaming in the other direction.

I mean, it's not like the Republicans haven't been aggressively trying to strip us of our reproductive rights and didn't flagrantly and brazenly flaunt their hatred for women. Nope, it's all in our heads, see. We're the paranoid crazies. I mean, it's not like there isn't a mountain of evidence the size of goddamn Everest pointing to the contrary. Oh, and Romney and his ilk, why they would NEVER throw gay people under the bus! It's all just a left-wing conspiracy! I mean, the Republicans, they're cool with gay marriage, and the states that recently legalized gay marriage, I'm sure that would totally have happened underneath a Republican rule.

It's at this point where I truly wonder what color the sky in your world is.

Oh, and also, according to you, you truly believe that the rich pay their fair share. (To which I guffawed in open disbelief.) It's the rest of us Americans who need to get off our lazy backsides and pull this country out of the gaping whole of debt we're all trapped in, since it makes complete and total sense to make it OUR responsibility rather than the wealthiest people in the whole damn country. No, not the rich people, since they're already pulling their weight. We're just a bunch of mean, vicious bullies that are harassing the poor dears, and it's not fair. Baaawwwww.

Uh-huh. Right. If this is the case, then I'm Lady Gaga's long lost twin sister.

What else am I forgetting?

Oh, right. You've also admitted that you're a proud Tea Party supporter. You say you're not a racist, and yet you're a sympathizer to a hate group that is essentially the Klu Klux Klan 2.0. You scoffed at me when I said they were a bunch of trigger happy, brain dead, foaming at the mouth religious nutballs which the Republican party embraced and pandered to in the hopes of garnering more votes. (And now, hilariously, since the Republican winning strategy backfired rather spectacularly, the GOP is now stuck with a pack of delusional crazies they can't hope to ever shake loose. But, I digress.) According to you, they've been grossly misrepresented by the media. They're just a bunch of concerned citizens engaging in peaceful protests, that's all.

Errrr....yeah. I'm pretty sure the Teabaggers managed to scare the sane, moderate Republicans into voting Democratic. Of course, I'm sure you'd brand them traitor.

I was more than a bit surprised when I asked if you watched Fox News, and you told me that you didn't. I guess that means you got your tinfoil hat from somewhere else.

Yet in spite of all this, you're the one that shakes your head in pity at me and tells me that I'm the delusional one. That I'm misguided, conditioned, brain washed, and sheltered. You think that I've been duped by Obama's sales pitch, and that I don't think for myself because I don't see through Obama's evil socialist agenda and plans to turn us into a copy of Soviet Russia the way you do. You actually bought Romney's line about forty seven percent of America being nothing more than a bunch of lazy mooching freeloaders who don't want to work and just want to live off the system, and who view it as a “career opportunity.” Because a struggling single mother of three receiving only five hundred dollars from the state per month is totally living high on the hog, and things like food, shelter, and medical care are all “entitlements” rather than simple, basic necessities for living.  Newsflash: showing open disdain for nearly half the country's population did not endear your chosen candidate to voters. (I know, it was a real shocker for you.) Romney's disgusting statement only served to repulse the moderate voters and pushed them to vote in the other direction. That is, if they weren't already chased away by the rabid insanity of the Teabaggers, as I mentioned before. That's another little thing that caused your side to lose the last election.

I know you're set in your ways and you won't budge from your position. You'll stubbornly cling to your party and wonder why you keep losing elections and blame the liberals for your losses when in reality your party has done its damnedest to alienate gays, women, people of color, the poor and the working class. For heaven's sake in the last election your party blatantly engaged in the dirty, underhanded tactic of voter suppression. If it had been our party pulling such a stunt, you can be damn sure we would have been calling foul, because unlike Republicans, we Democrats, perhaps to our detriment, believe in fair and honest play.

Rather than pointing an accusing finger at us, why not instead point an accusing finger at your higher ups, the ones you voted in? But then, I guess critical thinking about your party and its reprehensible  actions against the citizens of our country might lead you to concede that the Democratic side might have some valid points, and you can't have that now can you? After all, according to you, we're a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Heaven forbid you should ever step out of your nice conservative little bubble.

And yet, in your eyes, those of us who voted for Obama are nothing more than blind sheep.

In closing, the truth is, I shake my head in pity at you, because while you are a wonderful person in many ways, you are so tragically misguided, having bought the Conservative party line and fallen for it hook, line, and sinker. In reality, you're the one that's been duped, not me.

Alas, we are of two sides of the same coin, you and I. Each of us both believes that neither of us will ever see the light.

I hope that someday, you'll wake up and see the toxic cesspool of misogyny, homophobia, and racism that your beloved party has become, and is no longer the party of Lincoln, and hasn't been for a long, long time. And perhaps, someday, you will divorce yourself from the crazy, and step into the light of reason, sanity, logic, and facts where we liberals reside.

I'm not holding my breath that you will, though.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
