There exists in this country, sadly, a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells and stows violence against its own people. Through vicious, violent video games with names like “Bullet Storm,” “Grand Theft Auto,” “Mortal Combat,” and “Splatterhouse.”...I mean we have blood-soaked films out there, like “American Psycho,” “Natural Born Killers.” They’re aired like propaganda loops on Splatterdays and every single day.1,000 music videos, and you all know this, portray life as a joke and they play murder -- portray murder as a way of life. And then they all have the nerve to call it entertainment. But is that what it really is? Isn’t fantasizing about killing people as a way to get your kicks really the filthiest form of pornography?
NRA's Wayne LaPierre, Dec 21, 2012
While I understand the validity of this argument, the irony of the most ardent 2nd amendment "advocate" blaming the first amendment is a crass obfuscation of the truth. Mark me down for advocating a "living Constitution" and that puts sensible protections in place...even an honest "originalist" would concede that the Founding Fathers intent was not want to protect the right of a generation of teenagers to consume eight years of graphically violent video games; then buy the real personal weapons of mass destruction they used in the games and then let the small percentage of this generation spiral downward with their personal demons and terrorize us.
But LaPierre doesn't care about addressing the causes on mass murder. He just wanted to deflect attention from his inflexible and intolerant views, by attacking the inflexible and intolerant views of others.
