Giving money away.
If you've got some, then giving money away is more than a good idea.
It is a duty.
It is a right.
It is an honor.
It is a pleasure.
But most of all, it is a privilege.
Many of the world's billions do not have that privilege. They are unable to give. They do not have enough to pay for the minimal needs of human survival.
I am fortunate in many ways: I am fortunate in that I live in America; I am fortunate in that I have food - good food; I have clean water. I have clothes and shelter and heat. These are things many do not have. I have more than this, and that is fortunate too.
I am fortunate in that our president is Barack Hussein Obama and not Mitt Romney. And I am fortunate in that I got to help that happen (a little).
I am also fortunate in that I found daily Kos.
This place is awesome.
This election season Daily Kos raised more than a million dollars for candidates across the nation. This site made a significant difference this year. We won! Markos explained on Wednesday that the site advertising is covering less of the costs now and that ad revenue will continue to decline. Daily Kos needs support from its readers to continue changing things for the better.
And then, on a purely personal note:
I like it here.
I joined Jan 7, 2006, almost exactly 7 years ago. Since then, I've posted 1324 diaries and 65,323 comments. Holy *! That's 10,000 comments a year! I must like it here!
Do you like it here?
Chip in.
If you can chip in a lot, do so. If you can only chip in a little, that's cool. If all you can chip in is a rec and a comment, OK by me (and see below! This is daily Kos! We help each other).
Want to know some good ways to chip in? Follow me below the Kos Croissant.
Do you want a subscription?
Tell us in the comments if you don't have one!
We'll try to maintain a list like last year.
As this list grows perhaps you'll see someone you appreciate and provide what Hunter calls the soul cleansing reward of eliminating the obnoxious ads for someone else. They'll also have access to all the swell E-books from Daily Kos, like Hunter's Chronicles of Mitt and Markos's American Taliban.
Click here to buy a gift subscription for someone.
Or you can simply donate to the site as
Susan Gardner did to
honor the Rescue Rangers or as
Meteor Blades did to
thank the Top Comments Team.
Click here to donate and help Daily Kos do more in 2013.
And what will I do, you ask?
I will match the gifts given in this diary up to a total of $500.
