I hope Santa brought you something you wanted. Perhaps an orange antimacassar for your favorite chair. Although, truth be told, if you've ever sat in a chair adorned with an antimacassar - of any color, (or 'colour' for those of you from the land of Holmes and Watson) - , you probably found it downright annoying. Especially when the darned thing slips down and starts irritating your back. What is one supposed to do with a fallen antimacassar? Do you rise from the chair, restore it to its position, and then wait for it to slip again? Or do you put it on the arm of the chair, thus incurring the displeasure of whichever formidable Great Aunt one happens to be the guest of? (And yes, I ended with a preposition. Because. Just because.)
In the jabney household, the role of antimacassar is played - with casual elegance - by Amy the cat. The top of the chair's back gives her a commanding view of the roof of the shed behind the apartment and the world beyond. The roof is flat, and usually black, but this morning it was white - covered with just enough snow to make this a white Christmas. But not so much as to be annoying. And so, in the time-honored tradition of those that dote on one particular four-footed critter, allow me to wish those of you that celebrate Christmas a merry one indeed - from Amy and me! (And yes, I used "Me" because it sounds better than "I." So there.) And to those that celebrate another tradition - whatever that may be - may the season bring its blessings to you and your loved ones as well. For those that feel they have no reason to celebrate at all, may I offer one universal truth: today the sun stayed longer in the sky than it did yesterday. And that trend will continue until midsummer! Guaranteed. So unless you're a vampire, or on a massive space ship far from the solar system and far off in the future, enjoy!
