We all LOVE holiday treats right! But when trying to be GMO free we often find that our treat selections are limited.
We are happy to have a new GMO Free Idaho member and contributing writer on our team, Dawn Burkhart, who is a non-GMO cooking MASTER! She will be sharing recipes, along with other non-GMO information, on our website to share with all of you!
She’s getting things started with this awesome, yummy :) Non-GMO Gingerbread Cookie recipe!
Here is what you will need!
Cookies:
1/2 cup Organic sugar
3 cups sifted Organic all-purpose flour
2 tsp non-GMO baking soda
1 tsp Sea Salt
2 tsp powdered ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp each powdered cloves and nutmeg
1 cup Organic butter
1/2 cup local honey
Eggnog Frosting:
Organic Powdered Sugar
Organic Egg Nog or non-GMO Silk Nog
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Melt butter, sugar honey in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stir in honey until smooth.
Sift the sugar, flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg together into a mixing bowl.
Add butter mixture to flour mixture. Refrigerate dough about 2 hours or until ball has hardened enough to be rolled out.
Roll the dough out about 1/8-inch thick on a floured board or between sheets of waxed paper. Cut it into the shapes of Gingerbread Men. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes on a cookie sheet. Remove from oven and, after a minute, from cookie sheet with a spatula to cool on cake racks.
For frosting, mix powered sugar and egg nog until smooth. Frost your little gingerbread men and ENJOY!

GMO Free Idaho is a local action group out of Boise, Idaho. We are dedicated to raising awareness about the presence of genetically modified organisms in our food supply and environment.
GMO Free Goal
Our goal is to create a coalition of farmers, food producers, medical providers and consumers that are working together to achieve positive changes in our food industry.
We encourage people to buy local and to build relationships with their farmers. There are so many local farms ready and willing to provide local, fresh and non-GMO foods. They just need your support!
We encourage Idahoans to buy non-GMO foods and hope to help create the tipping point in which GMO foods are pushed off the market.
Label GMOs
We are also pursuing a ballot initiative that will require mandatory labeling of foods containing GMOs in Idaho.
Our goal is to eventually join over 50 other nations who have either banned or require mandatory labeling on genetically modified organisms.
You can make a difference. Join us and make Idaho GMO free.
