Well, here's some good news that ought to cheer up Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while she recovers in the hospital tonight, and President Obama while he deals with the fiscal cliff crisis. Skynews is reporting that Hillary Clinton again 'most admired woman' for the 11th time in a row, and the 17th time in total, and President Obama was voted the most admired man by 30% of Gallup Polls respondents for the 5th time.
Skynews seems to be an Australian publication so this article is time stamped "Updated: 09:07, Tuesday January 1, 2013," which is sort of fun for those of us still in 2012 - I feel like I'm getting a glimpse of tomorrow news.
.
Mrs Clinton topped the 2012 list compiled by Gallup, with 21 per cent of those surveyed naming her as the woman they most looked up to this year. It is the 11th straight time that Clinton has topped the annual poll, and the 17th altogether - a first for Gallup.
The result 'further solidifies her position as the most often named Most Admired Woman in Gallup's history - a total of 17 times going back to her first year as first lady in 1993', the polling company said.
President Barack Obama was named the most admired man of the year by 30 per cent of the 1038 adults polled from December 19 to 22, his fifth time at the top of the list. Former South African President, Nelson Mandela, came in second with three per cent support.
First Lady, Michelle Obama, came second to Mrs Clinton, with five per cent of people naming her, and talk show diva Oprah Winfrey ran a close third.
I reported part of this story as an update to my Best Wishes and Get Well Soon post for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the post announcing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's blood clot is between her brain and skull behind right ear but decided not to distract that Get Well Soon message with the information about the Obama's and Nelson Mandela. BTW, Secretary Clinton is doing well, has not suffered any neurological damage, and is expected to make a complete recovery.
Linda Feldmann, of the Christian Science Monitor has more details in Obama, Hillary Clinton top Gallup's most admired: Who else is on the list?
Since Gallup started asking the “most admired woman” question in 1948, former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt is second overall to Clinton, with 13 top finishes. On the men’s list, which started in 1946, former General and President Dwight Eisenhower has the most top finishes, with 12. Former President Ronald Reagan and former President Bill Clinton are tied for second with eight, and former President George W. Bush is third with seven.
“Obama's position as the Most Admired Man is not unusual,” writes Frank Newport, Gallup editor in chief. “Sitting presidents, with their extremely high visibility and essentially continuous presence in ongoing news coverage, have won the Most Admired Man honor 56 times out of the 66 years in which Gallup has asked the question – including each of the past 32 years in a row.” ...
The all-time list of most top finishes for women is a more diverse group. After Clinton and Mrs. Roosevelt come former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (six times), former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy (five), Mother Teresa (four), former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir (three), and former first ladies Rosalynn Carter and Nancy Reagan (three each).
So Congratulations and Happy New Year to both President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for this much deserved recognition, and Best Wishes for a Speedy Recover for Hillary.
And, Happy New Year and Best Wishes to all of my readers, and everyone else. Thanks for helping to make this my best year yet.
