Sorry all, don't mean to be rude here to interrupt the fiscal cliff aftermath, and who did what wrong, and when and how and why. I'm not that well versed in dry fiscal talk, budgeting, and the fine points of tax codes, sequestrations, and debt ceilings. At least not in the two-dimensional economy we've gotten used to, removed from planetary limitations.

But I do know that in the real world of ecological economics where we actually don't externalize the very foundation upon which every single one of our human activities rests, we have shot through the debt ceiling a long time ago, we're completely delinquent on mother nature's credit card, and the bill is coming due, interest and all.

So, I'm just wondering, now that everyone is going to argue until we're blue in the face for at least another two months about this stuff, could we perhaps have an occasional time out to concern ourselves with the issue of life as we know it on planet Earth being in acute danger?

I just think that if we here collectively decided that we didn't always just jump on every single piece of Washington bubble and (American) mainstream media outrage catnip, we could actually be more proactive in setting the agenda and deciding what's important in the bigger picture. Survival on planet Earth, anyone?

I can't help but feel we're arguing over which couch to get rid of while the whole house is on fire.

Anyway, as you were...

4:28 PM PT: via TrueBlueMajority, here's the trailer for Chasing Ice. If it's in a theater near you, it's well worth watching. It'll get you refocused, inspired, and motivated. I hope it wins an Oscar for Best Documentary!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
