Ed Schultz, during his MSNBC show tonight, made a great point... Remember when Bill O'Reilly implied that he would quit if taxes on him went up? Now, I don't have a clip from Ed Schultz of O'Reilly claiming this, but here is a clip from Sam Seder, saying the same:
The O'Reilly quote starts at 1:25
"If you tax achievement, some of the achievers pack it in. Again, take me: my corporations employ scores of people. They depend on me to do what I do so they can make a nice salary. If Barack Obama begins taxing me more than 50 percent, which is very possible, I don't know how much longer I'm going to do this. I like my job, but there comes a point when taxation becomes oppressive. Is the country really entitled to half a person's income?"
Now this is really funny, because if O'Reilly doesn't quit, that fundamentally disproves the Republican theory on taxes forever. If Republicans EVER bring up their favorite argument about taxing success, liberals can always say "Bill O'Reilly said he would quit, and didn't so, this proves that even when you tax the rich a bit higher, they will continue to contribute to society, even though I wouldn't call what O'Reilly did a contribution to society, but I digress".
On the other hand, if O'Reilly does quit, which he wont, but if he does, that's a win for us, on its own. We just have to keep reminding him about his statement. So what are you going to do about this, Bill?
