In honor of Daily Kos diarist, Richard Myers, who passed away suddenly last month, and the StopRush Project, I've decided to spotlight remaining Limbaugh sponsors every few days. Safelite Auto Glass is still hanging on, even after 2,200 companies have pulled their ads and left his show. Perhaps with more concerned consumers contacting them, they will be encouraged to pull their ads as well.
Enjoy the video! Then, please take a moment to choose a favorite means of contact below, and let this sponsor know how you feel about them supporting Rush. Two or three respectful sentences can make the difference.

Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:

    important work.

Whenever I see your diary I search for companies to write to. Today I wrote to IHOP, Burger King, McDonald's and Subway. They are likely to be very sensitive to bad publicity like being linked to hate speech.

We've been successful using social media to get a lot of these businesses to cut their ties to Limbaugh.  All it takes is a video clip like the one above and their name in a tweet or Facebook post and they get cold feet :)

Thanks for everything, Richard. We'll finish it for you.

  •  I Just E-Mailed... (6+ / 0-)

Safelite Auto Glass asking them if they knew their ad spots were playing on the Rush Limbaugh Show, and asking them if Rush's show reflects their corporate beliefs or, if it was just a blanket ad spot buy that landed them there.

I explained to them that their spots were playing on a highly political show to which I had no objection, but that Rush takes his commentary well beyond politics and into highly objectionable smear attacks, lies, racism, & sexism. I stated that there is indeed an organized effort to boycott the ad sponsors of the Rush Limbaugh Show, which will flavor my decision making this spring when I will be having 2 windshields replaced, which were cracked so far this winter. I then encouraged them to tighten up their loose advertising campaign if indeed their sponsorship of the Rush Limbaugh Show was not part of their corporate beliefs.

I'll post back with any reply they send.

We really do need to pay attention to this important work and Flush Rush!

Thank you for writing this and stirring me into action!
Hopefully others will also jump into gear and take action.
It would be nice to see the Rush Limbaugh Show be cancelled as a result of our actions.

Oldestsonofasailor for adding your voice.  That's exactly what our campaign does--respectfully notify businesses they are airing ads alongside a really offensive program and let them know that you don't appreciate it.  The more voices the more they consider the effect on their bottom line.  If you feel like helping more come and join us at or

      That's great to hear!

Over 2,200 companies have pulled ads in the last 10 months. And those are only ones that have let us know.  (I'll be editing this info into the diary) Many more companies have left the show without any announcement, often to avoid controversy and the pro-Rush backlash.

Yesterday, it was leaked via Mother Jones, that Rush has been highly subsidized by Freedom Works (part of the Super Pac). I'm not surprised, as so many large and small companies have dropped his show, some stations are having to give away free spots,  and even the free spots are being rejected.

      More to come...

The original creator of Flush Rush, is posting his first Daily Kos today or tomorrow. We're in for a treat. I don't know if he'll be using his real name so I won't mention it now. I will be helping to promote his work in my diaries. He is very admirable and was very good friends with Richard Myers. We really miss Richard. What a lovely man.

      Well, I've just rambled on, haven't I.

      Thank you again, so much!

They don't seem to get it.....

    Hi Oldestsonofasailor!

First, I wanted to thank you for letting us know about your concerns.

That being said, we apologize if our advertising during Rush Limbaugh’s program offends you. Trust me, it is certainly not our intention to alienate potential customers. We do not condone or endorse his personal or political opinions. We simply want to reach the show’s listeners. The station is one of many on our advertising schedule.  It’s important to note that we advertise in a broad spectrum of programs from conservative to liberal talk. We also advertise frequently during programs that are not political in nature – such as music and sports talk.

Before our next advertising campaign, we will certainly keep your comments in mind as we review our advertising efforts.

So, please know that your comments have been heard. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your concerns.  We sincerely hope you will consider Safelite for your glass repair and replacement needs.

The following is my E-Mailed Response to Whitney Fine at Safelight:
    Hi Whitney,

I'm afraid you aren't "Getting It!" Your advertising does not offend me.

Rush Limbaugh offends me and many others with his highly objectionable lies, sexist and racist commentary, and as long as your company and others buy advertising spots on his show you are enabling his objectionable behavior on air. We as consumers who find his show to be highly objectionable, see your advertising spots played on his show, and we will then elect to vote with our purchases, by taking our business to other companies which do not advertise on the Rush Limbaugh Show.

    That is the Bottom Line...
As long as your company is advertising on his show, I and many others will take  take our business elsewhere!

Perhaps you should examine the following videos that are on YouTube and see some of the reasons why we find his show to be so highly objectionable.

This first video is Sandra Fluke a Georgetown University Law Student testifying before the US House of Representatives Democratic Steering and Policy Committee on woman's health and contraception.

After seeing Sandra Flukes testimony watch the following YouTube clip of excerpts of Rush Limbaugh's diatribes against her in the days following her testimony before the congressional committee.

I sincerely hope that you could see a significant difference between the actual testimony of Sandra Fluke, and the slander, lies, and sexist ranting, that Rush launched into for the next several days, following her testimony. I'm afraid that as long as your company engages in enabling such vile, and despicable behavior on the airwaves with their advertising budget that I cannot buy your products, even if you have a desire to reach the shrinking group of listeners that share the beliefs of Rush Limbaugh. Sandra Fluke is just the tip of the iceberg of the offensive nature of Rush Limbaugh's show.

I urge you to pass this information on to those in the company who make the advertising media purchases and let them know the bad choice that they have made in the sponsorship of the Rush Limbaugh Show and that their choice is tarnishing the image of your company. Our purchasing power and notification of the offensive nature of Rush's show has led to over 2,200 companies pulling their ads from his show in the last 10 months, and I am urging your company to do the same.

    Thank You,

"Do you realize the responsibility I carry?
I'm the only person standing between Richard Nixon and the White House."
