A couple days ago, I made note of the callous actions of Rep. Steve Palazzo, the Mississippi Republican who voted against the first Sandy relief spending bill despite representing a district hit hard by Katrina in 2005. It was a mean-spirited and Scrooge-like act, true, but it was missing the key ingredient that is necessary to make a truly loathsome Republican act: Hypocrisy.
Well, worry no more, we've got that in spades now. TPM has provided this press release from Palazzo from six months ago concerning federal aid in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac. And needless to say, he's gone from pre-ghost visit Scrooge to post-ghost visit Scrooge:
Biloxi, MS - Congressman Steven Palazzo, Mississippi's Fourth Congressional District Representative, today welcomed news that a major disaster declaration had been issued for the state of Mississippi to help communities recover from Hurricane Isaac.
"Some of the counties in the fourth congressional district have been the hardest hit by Isaac," Palazzo stated. "This determination comes as good news to our local communities who are dealing with the effects of the storm. We cannot thank the governor's office and FEMA enough for their continued support."
Funny, I see no demand for spending offsets
that time.
If you needed proof that Palazzo will run crying to the federal government the next time his district is hit by a hurricane, you've got it. But those blue staters need to sacrifice and solve their problems themselves!
