I received an email from Danny Glover on behalf of MoveOn.org, asking me to sign a petition through SignOn supporting the nomination of Pulitzer Prize winning economist Paul Krugman for Secretary of the Treasury.

I wondered why I would want to give my personal information to MoveOn and SignOn, when I already gave that information to whitehouse.gov when I signed the petition to boot Texas and Louisiana's crybaby asses out of the country after this past election. PS I am from neither of those states.

So I just went to The White House's petitions web site and created the petition. As you likely know, if it gets 25,000 signatures, they will respond to it.

You can find it here. Tell your friends.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Even if you would not be a good fit for Treasury Secretary, even if you don't want the job, and even if you are sure we're all sure you would not be confirmed, it's important for the public to make noise to the effect that you should be in this position. Why? Because of the very pseudo-centrism you write so eloquently about. Our nation's political debates and media posturing keep trying to find a "center" between relatively conservative (and sometimes incorrect) positions on the Democratic side and off the deep end right wing definitely incorrect positions on the Republican side, pushing us further towards falling off the right wing cliff.

At the very least, having a lot of noise that you are right, and the person for the job, should help move the debate slightly closer to reality, albeit sadly not far enough. Of course this could never be enough to correct the course of our national discourse, since you are simply the guy with accurate assessments, not some left wing radical, and the pseudo-centrist "middle" would continue to try to balance that reasonableness with the right wing radicalism of much of Washington."

    •  In all fairness (0+ / 0-)

Obama has made a point of publicly admiring Doris Kern Goodwin's book "Team of Rivals" which implies that he gives at least lip service to the notion of including a diversity of opinion on his cabinet.

...that he doesn't have the desire or temperament for a cabinet post. I don't doubt that there are plenty of Keynesians from whom the president could choose that would be good at the job and would want it. I'm not optimistic, though.

I vote we run Rick Scott out of Florida on a high-speed rail.

  •  I don't believe it, even if he said it. (0+ / 0-)

It is hard for me to believe that with all of the frustration he voices in his columns regarding fiscal policy, he would shrug and say "this job isn't for me; solve it on your own. I am content to play Monday Morning Quarterback."
