In the gun control debate, you the reader often hear a staggering amount of facts and figures thrown about by both sides to support their claims. (Perhaps you may have even used such data in the past). For instance, you have probably heard gun rights activists cite the second amendment in the defense for their right to firearm ownership. Using this fact weapons activists hopes to link a legal foundation into undeniable bedrock for the right to keep his/her weapon. However, as we have seen before the constitution is only viable as long as the populace supports the ideas inscribed within the document. For over a decade you have watched as one by one these rights fail to meet the challenges they promised to usurp. With this history in mind, it is therefore impossible to use this argument in a solid defense, which will stand the test of time. In a similar vein, you often hear gun control activists recount the terrible carnage brought about by weapons in civilian hands, which is said to never have been intended to be in private hands in the first place. What of the crimes committed by Nazis Germany, we cannot disregard the evidence that police and military in German were the main tool for the murder of millions. No, you are smarter than the rhetoric parroted back and forth. You can formulate an undeniable truth that is beyond any sane reproach. After all, if your argument is so perfect and undeniable it should not need any third party data to support it. Let us look at how by asking the question why. Why should we need weapons in the world if all they cause is misery and death? We do not live in a Utopia nor will we ever attain one; to say otherwise is to deny the human condition. There will always be hate and there will always be murder. Likewise, there will always be a tool to commit the crime whether it is a gun, knife, bomb, or bare hands. While it may seem that banning weapons will stop one tool from being used, you cannot stop the weapon from being made or brought illegally. The scary reality is that weapons capable of mass murder and 900 rounds per minute are no more than desperation and a hardware store away (as is the ammunition). Most people though are not murders and simply want to live out their life in liberty and peace. However, by banning weapons those people who mean no harm are automatically grouped with those who do. Crucially though, this brings out the question that people should be discussing and must be debating. Do You Have a Right To Self Defense?
Look past all the facts and figures and ask this question, because it is the topic of all your answers.
