I don't want America to forget that Mitt Romney explicitly said he wanted to kill Sesame Street. Yeah, KILL Sesame Street. The show that has proven itself over decades. Why would Republicans hate Sesame Street so much? Well, because it has always, ALWAYS represented tolerance and diversity, and Republicans these days represent intolerance and hate tolerance.

Let's remember what Sesame Street means and what it has meant through the MANY years it has helped children learn. I grew up with Sesame Street and what it ALWAYS meant to me was tolerance and diversity and SMARTS...things modern Republicans seem to hate.

THe horrible, horrible lesson of speaking SPANISH in America:

Stevie Wonder absolutely rocks on Sesame Street (at a time when being black was NOT considered normal and this made people like me realize that blacks were part of normal life)...this is really some of the best music EVER!:

Here is a major find, and probably the kind of thing why Mitt and the Republicans hate Sesame Street so much. Nina Simone on Sesame Street. I should note that most of my American friends do NOT know about Nina Simone but my Israeli friends do. (Note: I think this Sesame Street video is lip synced but what the hell...I have heard an earlier version that is pretty much identical):

And in case you think black pride was brought in by Nina Simone, here is the Sesame Street character, Roosevelt Franklin, speaking about the Skin he's wonder Republicans hate it!

Sesame Street and BB King, an American Icon, pay tribute to the Letter B:

Going further back, Cab Calloway joined the Sesame Street cast a few of times:

And I can't resist this one, which I still remember from when I was a kid (Okay, it's the Muppet Show, not Sesame Street, but so what??): (and Heaven Forfend, it includes Spanish!)

And my wife an I supported our good friend and mayoral candidate John Liu on his birthday:

(at an event that included everyone from Hassids to Pashtuns to Nepalis and included a substantial number of City Council members)

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
