OK, awhile back when Kos was offering one-time only life-time subscriptions, I really wanted one but couldn't afford it. So I decided to subscribe for a year next year and thereafter. $40. a year is a pinch for me, but affordable.
So I submitted a subscription form for this year--2013--and as near as I can tell, am already a member. Did some care-free, wildly extravagant, kindly Kossack give me a life-time subscription?? Damned if I know. But if you did: my eternal gratitude.
Anyhow, here is a gift for all you-all if you can use it: I live in an in-town neighborhood where there are many door-to-door solicitations--also some of the family works from home, and interruptions are annoying and unprofitable. So I composed and printed out the following sign which is posted at the front door. Copy if you wish--it has been pretty effective:
"No Soliciting Please!
We already give time and money to as many good causes as we can afford.
We already contribute to good progressive candidates who support the Constitution.
We already are in good standing with the Almighty.
Have a nice day."
The next to last line covers all the mono-theist solicitors. The Hare Krishna folks have not been around for years. One church group did return and tell me that their preacher told them "soliciting" means asking folks to buy something and they weren't selling.
"No," said I, "soliciting means asking someone to do something." They retreated and haven't been back.
