After working our asses off, well mostly, your asses off, to get a second term, and we sit back and let the horses asses throw spit wads at the White House Petition web site.

I'm embarrassed.  I'm disappointed.  I'm eviscerated.

Why aren't we dominating that site.  Why aren't we writing sensible petitions and generating hundreds of thousands of signatures?  Even my lame ass petition should have 2,500 signatures.  It is serious.  It is a novel take.  It should easily get as many as a secession petition or a death star petition.

I'm embarrassed.  I'm disappointed.  I'm eviscerated.

We have boiler plate issues people.  Why don't we have decent petitions up on all of them with signatures to match.

It wouldn't do any good.  We must wait.  We must keep our vocal chords dry.  President Obama is going to kick us through the goal posts of a second term.

So chit chat in a diary that gets 300 recommends.  No petition.  Just some more great dialogue.

I'm embarrassed.  I'm disappointed.  I'm eviscerated.

There's not even a petition about Keystone.  Well there is one that wants Keystone to proceed. We watched oil spills closer than this.  For the love of God, where's the mother ship.

I'm embarrassed.  I'm disappointed.  I'm eviscerated.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Yes we are getting played in the 11th dimension of chess.  I doubt we will learn it though.

President Obama was a community organizer.  He is a genius.  He wasn't carrying a basket of cookies to grandma's house.  He was gaining an understanding of how communities work.

People mostly get worked up about stupid shit.

People won't sign a petition unless they are worked up.  Otherwise they will find fault and fight among themselves.

So the White House has a perfect instant barometer of what the people are willing to do.

That there are so many duplicate petitions that divide signatures.

The thing is, you're going to need some organizing if you want to get large petitions.

Also, I wouldn't be too worried about the Keystone pipeline; Kerry is a strong climate hawk.

Republicans are far more socialist than Democrats. Just because they want to redistribute the wealth upwards does not make it any better.

my mind it's a bit extreme if it all came to pass.

I agree that the problem is multiple petitions for the same thing.

People click and sign petitions when they are angry and worked up about issues, so it seems to ebb and flow.

I've probably signed about 15 petitions on the site since inception.

And even if it were perfect it would never in a million years be adopted as it is presented.

        •  I have been commenting about the site and evolving (0+ / 0-)

          as I comment.

Here's what I am thinking now.

White House Petition site, I'm thinking we are totally missing the point.

Real impact.  Well maybe not in the way you are thinking.

Remember President Obama was a community organizer.  He is a genius.  He wasn't carrying a basket of cookies to grandma's house.  He was learning how communities organize.

So what does the White House Petition site tell him?  It tells him what people are willing to do.  Mostly they are not willing to do much.  It tells him if people are worked up about something.

And it tells him mostly people get worked up about stupid shit. (I wonder if he knew that before.  It shocked me that the Bevis and Butthead crew would rule.)

When people care about things, they mill around, they grumble, they find fault with each other, they nit-pick solutions.  They don't get organized.

When they are worked up and ready to go they sign a petition.  And we are a country of how many millions.  I don't think we are even milling around at this point.

So the White House Petition site is an instant barometer of the will of the people and whether they are worked up enough to do anything.

they only get worked up and active if there is a major disturbance - and then, usually only to defend someone who needs help.

Conservatives, on the other hand,  want to control everything.  They are always on the edge, dictating the minutiae.

Yes, I wish progressives were more pro-active, rather than reactive.

Unfortunately, progressives tend to "hold these truths to be self-evident" and can't believe others cannot see the obvious and react in the obvious way.

tonight, but from reading it I would suspect that you're getting pretty close to the upper limit of support...

...it may be a matter of composition, but this line:

And if your weapon was used in a crime and you died trying to KEEP it, your estate would be liable for all damages your weapon caused while not in your possession.
pretty much takes your petition out of the game, because it seems to be saying that even if I die in the effort to keep my firearm in my possession in the face of a criminal effort to take it from me, my estate will be responsible for any subsequent damage...

...since this particular sentence seems to be saying the equivalent of "my estate will be responsible for any subsequent damages if somebody kills me while carjacking my ride", I suspect that you probably shouldn't be either embarrassed, disappointed, eviscerated, or surprised at the outcome...
