Steve Stockman speaking at LPAC 2011 in Reno, Nevada.
Rep. Steve Stockman wants in the Bachmann-King-Gohmert caucus. With Allen West and Joe Walsh gone, there are vacancies.
Congressman Steve Stockman (R-Texas 36th) released the following statement Monday afternoon.

The White House’s recent announcement they will use executive orders and executive actions to infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms is an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic.

Aside from the fact that not even this right-wing Supreme Court has stated that there is an absolute right to keep any arms, the reality is that President Barack Obama hasn't actually released any specific plan yet. Hysterics for the sake of hysterics aren't becoming of a United States representative. That is, unless he's auditioning for the part of Allen West.

(Big impeachment talk continued below the fold.)

I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment.
He will burn Obama's crops organic White House garden and salt the fields! He will drive his enemy before him and hear the lamentations of his women!

Seriously, this dude is a freshman backbencher, but he will THWART Obama!

The President’s actions are an existential threat to this nation.
We're all going to die?
The right of the people to keep and bear arms is what has kept this nation free and secure for over 200 years. The very purpose of the Second Amendment is to stop the government from disallowing people the means to defend themselves against tyranny.
At least some in the gun-nut community pretend that this is about hunting rifles, but this passage really exposes their true motivations. They really do believe that jackbooted thugs will be breaking down their doors—and would've done so already—were it not for their semi-automatic assault rifles. That rampant paranoia, fueled by the NRA and gun manufacturers, drives these nuts to insanity.

And yet, even if their worst nightmares came true, their AR-15s wouldn't be much of a match against a regime backed by special operations tactical teams and drones.

Meanwhile, street gangs and drug cartels and crazy fucks are shooting up the world around them with military-grade gear, just because idiots like Rep. Stockman want to indulge in childish Red Dawn fantasies.

Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible.
I recommend an armor-piercing article of impeachment.
Under no circumstances whatsoever may the government take any action that disarms any peaceable person – much less without due process through an executive declaration without a vote of Congress or a ruling of a court.
Phew! Good thing Obama isn't doing that.
The President’s actions are not just an attack on the Constitution and a violation of his sworn oath of office – they are a direct attack on Americans that place all of us in danger.
And by "actions," he means "some shit I pulled out of my ass, because nothing has actually happened yet."

Still, you know who won't be in danger by these fantasy Obama attacks? The victims at Sandy Hook. They were already taken out by the very real bullets of a madman. Stockman thinks that's an acceptable price to pay for his paranoia.

If the President is allowed to suspend constitutional rights on his own personal whims, our free republic has effectively ceased to exist.
Ah yes, Obama is "suspending constitutional rights." How? He can't say because nothing has been suspended, and nothing will be suspended. There is no disarming going on, no guns are being confiscated.

So at a time when the public has decided that some gun limits are better than more dead schoolchildren, Republicans threaten impeachment for doing what the American people want.

For a party that got its ass handed to it this last election, and continues to drop in popularity, you'd think they'd take a step back and figure out how to best appeal to the American mainstream, rather than remain hostage to their eight percent fringe.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
