Remember this?
"There exists in this country, sadly, a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells and stows violence against its own people, through vicious, violent video games with names like 'Bullet Storm,' 'Grand Theft Auto,' 'Mortal Combat,' and 'Splatterhouse,' "
Well, guess the NRA felt it should get in on the action.
ABCnews.com has the rest of the story.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) has released a "Practice Range" Shooting App for iOS, according to Apple's App Store description. The app combines the NRA's facts and educational materials with a 3-D shooting game, which, according to the description, "instills safe and responsible ownership through fun challenges and realistic simulations."
You have your choice of 9 different firearms and three different ranges. The app can be used on your iphone or ipad (and i'm assuming your ipod touch as well)
The NRA really doesn't see a problem with this, or in that it is rated for kids as young as 4.
The game is rated for children ages four and up, and says it "strikes the right balance of gaming and safety education, allowing you to enjoy the most authentic experience possible."
NBCnews.com has a bit more about the story, including the negative reaction it's getting at the App Store. I also caught this in their story.
The NRA says the app “puts the organization’s broad scope of resources in the palm of your hand – with 2nd Amendment newsfeeds, gun law information centers and educational materials that you can access anywhere, anytime.”
Is it me or does that quote make it sound like they are using a video game to sell their product??
Sound familiar?
