This is my first diary here. I am the quiet, introverted sort, who typically does not like drawing attention to himself, but I have to say that some of the attitudes of my wingnut friends on FaceBook are really beginning to get to me. I put the quiz below the fold together by way of analogy. Should I bother posting it on FaceBook?
A zookeeper at the monkey house decides to provide her monkeys with something new to play with. To better enhance their environment and keep them from getting bored, she places a set of bowling pins in the enclosure. It doesn’t take long before one of the monkeys begins using a bowling pin as a club, and injures another monkey. To keep the monkeys from further injuring themselves, would you:
a. Remove the bowling pins and chalk it up as a failed experiment.
b. Only allow monkeys who behave responsibly to play with the bowling pins.
c. Ensure that there are enough bowling pins for every monkey so they can protect themselves from the other monkeys.
d. Provide the monkeys with a new set of bowling pins enhanced with spikes.
Yes, this is an analogy for the gun control debate. And yes, this is how ridiculous the NRA’s position (D) sounds to me. I would choose B. Sensible measures to keep weapons out of the hands of irresponsible or unstable individuals do not infringe on anyone’s constitutional rights. After all, the third word of the second amendment is “regulated.”
