as Sheriffs across the country stand up to say they will not be enforcing these new laws.
More on that later -
First - Long and short: the dimwits on FOX and Friends spent a good bit of their program whining about President Obama's efforts to respond to what they seem to see as a public outcry for increasing safety with regards to guns and schools. Typical stuff you have already heard, because you know how the conservative media is: the relentless repetition of republican talking points: armed guards all over the place, and such. And they wailed about Obama's use of the children.
They know Obama get a slew of letters for kids asking him to do something and they go hem and haw and try to work this into something with which to attack Obama
“I’m not saying these letters aren’t sincere and the kids aren’t worried,” he added. “But let’s just say this: If you are going to talk about keeping those kids safe, don’t you also have to talk about doing what Staten Island did in a lot of areas, putting some armed guards in their school, what New York City does in a lot of schools, metal detectors before the kids come? Because having gun control is just one small element of it.”
“It is a small element,” co-host Gretchen Carlson insisted. “These are the kids that actually reached out to him so that’s their defense, that they’re using those kids. But let’s face it, politics is all about imagery and I’m not saying it’s necessarily right, but it’s going to be the image that’s going to be sent around. It’s that picture, right? It’s going to look like these kids are standing behind what the president’s going to be proposing.”
The idiocy of these people runs from amazing to absolutely outrageous due to the nasty irresponsibility with which they approach this topic.
If Preznit Rmoney had to deal with the same incident, he'd get the same letters and most likely end up with the same photo-ops that they would milk like a herd of cows.
But then they turn to telling people how to evade the new NYC assault rifle ban. They make a 'suggestion' on how to utilize a 'loophole':
“We want to show you a graphic of a particular kind of weapon that has been banned, a rifle,” Carlson explained. “The reason it’s been banned is you can see there is how you hold on to the gun. That’s called a military-style [pistol grip]. The one below is legal simply because it does not have that little piece, but according to what I’ve read, it fires off the same amount of bullets.”
The stupidity of this is 2-fold: 1 - The language. It doesn't appear that the person sharing this useful incitement to breaking the law know jack shit about guns from the way they talk. If they had said "gun thing" I would have not been surprised.
2:Most people who have any interest in an assault rifle will know far more about managing the loopholes. There is a vast offering of aftermarket parts for AR-15s and any other rifle or pistol capable of being fit with an attachment system, usually a 'weaver rail"
It seems many of the pieces the NYC Assault Weapon ban targets are available as add-ons: they can be installed and removed at will. Things like 'flash supressors', pistol grips, flashlights can be added and removed without affecting the scope or any other sighting system a gun has. A pistol grip can be mounted in moments if desired and then removed.
FOX is ENCOURAGING people to study the law as a way to evade it.
Meanwhile, to ice the cake: Just some links to articles available at the moment.
Oregon Sheriff: I won't enforce Obama's gun laws
Mueller's defiant stand exploded into a groundswell of support. His letter -- posted on the department's Facebook page -- earned more than 59,000 likes and shares -- and was growing by the minute.
State officials warn White House against enforcing new gun regulations
State officials in Mississippi, Oregon and Texas are vowing to fight back against any attempt by the federal government to impose new gun control laws.
The warnings come as President Obama on Wednesday unveiled a comprehensive plan to address gun violence, based on the recommendations from the Vice President Biden-led task force. The plan includes a call for legislation to ban assault weapons as well as a variety of executive actions.
2nd Oregon Sheriff Says Won't Enforce New Gun Laws
Crook County Sheriff Jim Hensley said Tuesday he sent the same letter to Vice President Joe Biden that was sent Monday by Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller.
The letter says politicians are attempting to exploit the deaths of innocent victims in the Connecticut school shooting by supporting laws that would harm law-abiding Americans.
And...from the MaddowBlog
As Mueller sees it, it's apparently not up to courts or judges to determine which laws are consistent with Americans' constitutional rights; it's instead up to a local sheriff. And if the local sheriff decides the law doesn't meet the standards of his constitutional analysis, he just won't enforce it.
To put it mildly, this is a problematic approach to a functioning democracy.
Similarly, there are new measures pending in the South Carolina and North Dakota state legislatures on ignoring new federal gun policies -- before policymakers even know what they are -- and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant (R) wants state legislation that would make any "unconstitutional order" on gun policy taken by President Obama "illegal to enforce in Mississippi by state and local law enforcement."
The effort to implement functional improvements in safety regulations for 'guns' is going to be a long hard slog.
If these entities can't make themselves available for an adult and legal discussion - which we DON'T EXPECT from the likes of FOX - then they are just begging to be bypassed as irrelevant.
Or perhaps prosecuted because they are - or will be - breaking the law.......
