So I posted the link on my Facebook page to the MSNBC post regarding the NRA's macabre ad using President Obama's daughters to further their plan to stimulate paranoia and foment armed revolution and thereby guarantee incalculable profits brokering massive future weapons deals between manufacturers, distributors and the reality-challenged. The ensuing "conversation" this link generated with a childhood "friend" who was considered by many peers a classic "dork" (and who took much ridicule from those prone to ridicule in those days), whom I haven't seen in close to 35 years, has given me much pause and led to frequent head scratching and smacking of forehead with palm of hand. To encapsulate the "conversation" in as brief and painless a way as possible, it was a series of Obama-hating non-sequitors unrelated to the ad, which I tried to argue was still unconscionable and, also, totally disconnected from the "gun-control" debate itself. He otherwise seemed to suggest (typically) that the storm troopers were amassing outside every town and city ready to descend to remove not only everyone's guns but also their virgin daughters to sacrifice on the altar of socialist-multeee-cultrul-pro-gay-anti-god-illegal-immigrant-forgiven-OH-MY-GOD-PLEASE-SMITE-THESE-HEATHEN-WITH-THY-SWORD, and all I can say is, folks, I am numb. All I have left by way of response anymore would certainly not unwrap the coils of hate wound round this "friend's" and too many more of my fellow citizens' minds, but perhaps this little ditty descirbes somewhat how I gauge their emotional/mental state:
There's a BLACK MAN in the WHITE HOUSE
There's a BLACK MAN in the WHITE HOUSE,
Gotta get a gun, gotta get a gun, gotta get a gun.
What is that BLACK MAN doing in my WHITE HOUSE,
Not serving food to the real, American Pres--what
Is this precedent, and where's those good old days
When bedsheets served to cover sleep or midnight
Rides to keep our peace and lock the order in with grace?
I can't even speak what I really feel or say what I want
To say the way I want to say about That BLACK MAN
In the WHITE HOUSE, all choked up on Po-lit-i-cal
Cor-reck-tness just makes me want to Scream or shout.
So I just gotta get a gun, gotta get a gun, gotta get a gun.
