Twitter exchange between Deadspin and Donald Trump. Trump congratulates their writers for breaking the T'eo story, they respond by saying
  • Fighting back matters:
You know, no matter how nice Maggie Gallagher and company tries to dress up the National Organization for Marriage’s rhetoric, when the organization is not successful, it always goes back to basic homophobia and fear tactics such as the following “gays are coming after your children” ad it ran in Rhode Island recently [...]

No matter how much sweet frosting you put on manure, it is always manure. But here is the thing that I like. The group in Rhode Island pushing for marriage equality, Rhode Islanders United for Marriage, didn’t sit on its ass.

Instead they acted, putting out a statement condemning the lies and refuting them point by point.
  • Noted homophobic bigot Tony Perkins comes out (so to speak) against efforts to stop suicide among LGBT kids:
Gays are innately depressed and suicidal because of our "destructive lifestyles," and it's a "deceptive lie" to tell LGBT kids that it gets better.
  • And speaking of homophobic bigots, this is big of them:
The Association of Bragg Officers’ Spouses, the military spouses group at Ft. Bragg, has offered a “guest membership” to Ashley Broadway, the same-sex spouse of Lt. Col. Heather Mack who they blocked last month from joining. In fact, the group arbitrarily changed its rules to require an active ID card — a benefit same-sex spouses are not currently afforded — specifically to keep her from being eligible. [...]

Stephen Peters, executive director of the American Military Partner Association, offered this reaction to BuzzFeed:

Ashley is not a ‘guest’ military spouse. She is a military spouse, plain and simple. So the idea that the organization, in order to end the negative attention they are getting because of their outright discrimination, wants to give her a ‘guest membership’ is not only offensive, but ridiculous. The ABOS openly admits a military ID card is not listed as a requirement, yet they continue to deny her full membership.
  • Here's a unique solution for what to do with guns from buy-back programs:
Newark Mayor Cory Booker promoted his jewelry line, "The Caliber Collection," Thursday night on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show. The bracelets are made from metal "from 250 guns and bullet casings seized by the Newark Police Department" as part of the city's gun buy-back program, according to the line's website.

Booker told Maddow that "a large percentage of the proceeds go to more gun buy-backs in Newark."

  • On today's Kagro in Morning show, Greg Dworkin with more polling on guns, and evidence of a shift in intensity shifting the ground, post-Newtown. Armando joined for our interview with former Hostess bakery worker Mike Hummel, aka bluebarnstormer. Hear the details the traditional media skipped in telling the story. See today's podcast post for a link to Mike's short film on the whole debacle. You won't believe what the hedge funders get away with!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
