Maybe ya'll haven't heard of the lavish plans for a meet-up for Virginia, Maryland and DC Area Kossacks this Sunday, January 27 from noon 'til 5pm hosted by JamieG fr MD and liz dexic at liz's home in Herndon Sunday. Kosmail either of the ladies for directions, etc.

The location is accessible via Metro and only a stone's throw from Dulles International, although I doubt many will be flying in for this event.

The meet-up was originally called a pot luck. But, after careful consideration we're going with more of a bring it if you can otherwise don't worry about it motif.

As I wrote Liz & Jamie earlier tonight.

I've been looking at the menu items and think there are a few holes yet to be filled.

Many of the potential attendees are traveling via Metro or are otherwise unable to tote a casserole, etc. Either you or Jamie should make an announcement that it's okay to show up empty handed. Some potential attendees may be reluctant to come with no 'offerings' since the meet up is billed as a pot luck. Trust me on this. I was raised baptist (I later got over it) and the teaching was that if you didn't have a covered dish you couldn't get into heaven, seriously.

It's still early and some of the menu items may fall into place to fill out the table. However, in the event that it is not the case I don't want you to have any more stress than you already have. I'm offering my services to fill in the gaps. I'll be driving up from SW Virginia leaving Roanoke a little after 8am. I have plenty of time and a stress free drive ahead of me. I have a vehicle and most of your attendees won't.

I want this to be as enjoyable and stress-free as possible for everyone involved. I don't want the potential attendees feeling pressure about bringing something on the bus/rail and therefore not coming to the meetup. If they aren't able to bring a dish they can bring fresh ideas and their energy to share with all their friends.

Open this up as a feast of minds and souls for the betterment of Virginia's Democratic heart. I'm sure you and Jamie can do a better job of boosting the energy level to reach out to more that may not feel as tho they could afford to attend.

Anyone who'd like to attend is welcome. You don't need to bring anything but an open mind and maybe a few suggestions about moving Virginia ahead during the next elections cycles.

Northern Virginia is fairly safe ground for Democratic candidates. Southside and Southwest Virginia, not so much. We'd love to have more participation and input from more folks from Martinsvile, Danville, Roanoke and Hampton Roads areas.

Please come and join us if for nothing more than a free lunch with friends and like minded humans.

My apologies for any typos or poor grammar. This was thrown together at the last second by a former enlisted grunt. mea culpa.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
