The battle is on in NC. Our esteemed newly elected Republican Senate and House majorities and the Gov. are off and running.
House Bill 16: No N.C. Exchange/No Medicaid Expansion.
Sponsors: Representatives Burr, Avila, Hollo, and Collins (Primary Sponsors).
AN ACT (1) TO CLARIFY THE STATE'S INTENT NOT TO OPERATE A STATE-RUN OR "PARTNERSHIP" HEALTH BENEFIT EXCHANGE, (2) TO PROVIDE THAT FUTURE MEDICAID ELIGIBILITY DETERMINATIONS WILL BE MADE BY THE STATE RATHER THAN THE FEDERALLY FACILITATED EXCHANGE, AND (3) TO REJECT THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT'S OPTIONAL MEDICAID EXPANSION. http://ncleg.net/...
I haven't time to develop this story today, but wanted to get the word out: here is a useful session guide to the NCGA on how to track bills and contact legislators provided by
The Carolina Public Press (scroll down).
Yesterday our new Republican Governor attacked liberal arts education. Prior to that the wing-nuts expressed their desire to replace corporate and individual income taxes with highly regressive sales taxes. Foxes have already been given leading positions in the Dept. of Environmental and Natural Resources and the leadership of ALEC's National Education Committee is readying the transfer of public education funds to the private sector and on and on.
All of this under the funding eye of our new budget director Art Pope, board member of Koch's Americans for Prosperity.
Yell people, we can not afford the 'prosperity' these 'Taliban' wish to force upon us.
