A recent poll from Public Policy Polling showed Americans viewed video games as more of a threat than guns. But not really.
Details below the fold.
From kotaku and techdirt Public Policy Polling asked a question on video games and guns during a poll(pdf).
Among other questions concerning politics:
What do you think is a bigger safety threat in America: guns or violent video games?
and the results:
Guns ............................................................... 14%
Video games ................................................... 67%
Not sure .......................................................... 19%
Wow.
The methodology from PPP:
PPP surveyed 800 voters nationally from January 31st to February 3rd. The margin of
error for the survey is +-3.5%. We oversampled 416 Democratic and 508 Republican
primary voters with margins of error of +-4.8% and +-4.4% respectively. In Iowa
between February 1st and 3rd we interviewed 313 Democratic and 326 Republican
primary voters with margins of error of +-5.5% and +/-5.4% respectively. This poll was
not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political organization. PPP surveys are
conducted through automated telephone interviews
Until readers from Kotaku pointed out that most of the respondents were over 45:
Q15 If you are 18 to 45 years old, press 1. If 46 to
65, press 2. If you are older than 65, press 3.
18 to 45........................................................... 28%
46 to 65........................................................... 43%
Older than 65 .................................................. 29%
and, get this,
Q13 Would you describe yourself as very liberal,
somewhat liberal, moderate, somewhat
conservative, or very conservative?
Very liberal ...................................................... 1%
Somewhat liberal ............................................ 2%
Moderate......................................................... 14%
Somewhat conservative.................................. 41%
Very conservative ........................................... 41%
most were conservative. Some poll.
I would expect better from PPP.
