Didn't see a diary up on this. The dynamic duo Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles are back with a new and improved plan to make most of the country more miserable than they are now. They're making the rounds of the NBC cable stations MSNBC and CNBC.

Simpson, Bowles Propose $2.4 Trillion Deficit Cut Plan

Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson proposed a new tax plan in hopes of finding a middle ground between Democrats and Republicans on deficit reduction. If accepted, would implement deep spending cuts and reduce the federal budget by $2.4 trillion over a 10 year period.

Bowles and Simpson, co-chairs of the President's deficit reduction commission, spoke with CNBC's 'Squawk on the Street' on Tuesday. With automatic spending cuts of roughly $85 billion set to take effect on March 1 if no deal is made, but many believe that despite increasing pressure to make a compromise, lawmakers are less likely to do so as the deadline gets closer.

Contentious budget issues have paralyzed the Capitol, and raised the possibility that deep spending cuts and steep tax hikes may take effect within weeks.

As is their habit CNBC have their celebrity financial "legends" on as a guest host.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Why can't they learn that nobody wants them, and they need to STFU?

Could be just a coincidence that I saw Poltergeist movie

These two opportunists just couldn't wait, could they?

They need to STFU and go away. They already make a comfortable retirement.

They should aspire to have THEIR retirement for all Americans, not keep trying to screw the rest of us out of our EARNED pittance.

and Chuck Todd utterly failed (as expected) to correct them on their idiocies.  The hoary old 'people are living longer' was pulled out, without noting that the only people living longer are the rich, so the solution to that (and much more) is simply to remove the cap on SS contributions, and to consider all income for SS taxation, so as to capture money from all of the dodges the wealthy use to avoid paying regular taxes on what they get in compensation.

who is a prominent talking head for the Fix the Debt people.

And he used to be a Democratic governor.  That is, he used to be a governor, and he used to be a Democrat.  Don't know what we should call his kind now.

And he still shows up on MSNBC occasionally, where he encounters polite questioning that allows him to push his talking points.

And no one seems to make the connection to his Fix the Debt agenda.
