In US we are aware that our politicians are the world experts on double speak but it looks as though Canadian politicians are vying for the title. This became clear when the premier of the Canadian province of Alberta came to DC this past weekend trying to sell their Earth destroying brand of tar sands crude.
Her speech was revealing that the Canadian proponents of tar sands crude are not confident that the new Secretary of State John Kerry will give his approval to allow the extension of the XL pipeline to give them increased access to the refineries on the Gulf of Mexico coast.
Remember just a few months ago when the XL pipeline salesmen were pushing the meme of how the pipeline extension would give the US energy independence, cheaper oil and create a jobs bonanza? Well that's all been discredited so now what they are pushing is how dealing the tar sands crude has actually helped Canada to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The double speak can make your head spin.
Listen to Alberta premier Alison Redford speak about how the US is tying approval of Keystone XL pipeline to what Canada is doing about Climate Change on a federal level:
Video is long but pertinent information re the XL pipeline is in first half. Second half is about pipelines effect on Canadian economy.
