The gall of this pedophile protecting priest. Just a little over a week ago, he disgusted a world sick of these child molesters by writing this dreck on his blog, informing us that he's forgiving the people who hate him and the harm he brought on innocent children.
In the past several days, I have experienced many examples of being humiliated. In recent days, I have been confronted in various places by very unhappy people. I could understand the depth of their anger and outrage--at me, at the Church, at about injustices that swirl around us. Thanks to God's special grace, I simply stood there, asking God to bless and forgive them.
He just can't seem to call enough attention to himself and the terrible things he has been put through as a result of shielding criminals within the Catholic cone of silence. In today's
blog entry he really lets loose, this time on the press.
I can't recall a time such as now when people tend to be so judgmental and even self-righteous, so quick to accuse, judge and condemn. And often with scant real facts and information. Because of news broadcasts now 24/7 there is little or no fact checking; no in-depth analysis; no context or history given. Rather, everything gets reported as "news" regardless of the basis for the item being reported--and passed on by countless other news outlets.
We have ended up with a climate in which it's the norm to instantly pass judgement on one another, taking in and repeating gossip, sharing someone else's judgment as the truth, no regard for other people who may be harmed. Whatever happened to the norm of giving others the benefit of a doubt until hard evidence proves otherwise?
But Jesus calls us to something far different and much more difficult: we are to love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us. In today's world, to follow Jesus and his Gospel message means to "be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect." That's a really high bar for all of us, and certainly for me.
There is clearly very little difference between when a Republican gets caught in a scandal and when a Cardinal gets busted. Their go-to position is to lash out and blame the media. Here is the
New York Times back in January getting all judgmental on him.
No member of the Roman Catholic hierarchy fought longer and more energetically than Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles to conceal the decades-long scandal involving the rape and intimidation of children by rogue priests. For years, the cardinal withheld seamy church records from parents, victims and the public, brandishing endless litigation and fatuous claims of confidentiality.
The breadth of Cardinal Mahony’s cover-up became shockingly clear last week with the release in court of archdiocese records detailing how he and a top aide concocted cynical strategies to keep police authorities in the dark and habitual offenders beyond the reach of criminal prosecution.
While statutes of limitations on possible criminal charges may have run out, Cardinal Mahony and his former aide could be deposed in civil suits.
How about it Mahony? Are you going to cooperate if you get slapped with a civil suit? Are you going to help fill in some of that scant information that you have kept from law enforcement for all these decades?
You say we are to love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us. Well, Cardinal, you are the enemy of children and if I were a praying man, I would be praying for your prosecution.
VIA Joe. My. God.
