Appearing on TODAY with Matt Lauer, Bob Woodward continued to make a complete ass of himself. His laughable attempts to walk back his trumped up lie and try to salvage his bruised ego are just making him look even more ridiculous.
First he tries to blame the entire flap on Politico for taking his completely innocent and private chat with them and turning it in to an irresponsible story.
Lauer: You've felt the heat before. Why did you go public with this one?
Woodward: I didn't go public. Politico came and asked me in a long hour interview about how I decided and what the interaction was to write that op-ed piece.
Who would have thought an outfit like Politico wouldn't have kept this private little chat with them out of the news. Unheard of!
He then trots out his creds and doubles down by saying he wasn't threatened after all. Only he was because because people are literate. Or something.
I’ve done this 40 years. I’ve had lots of contentious exchanges with the White House. I’ve never said this was a threat. This is what it is. People can read.
Next comes the deflection of the mess he brought on himself by blaming the White House for the fact he got caught trying to gin up a story about journalist suppression when none existed.
It’s been pointed out that this is a sideshow, which it is. This is the old trick in the book of making the press, or some confrontation with the press, the issue, rather than what the White House has done here.
Finally this "legendary" journalist gets in touch with his inner five year old and throws a tantrum right there on live teevee.
The president is running around the country saying it’s going to bring a human toll, that all kinds of people are going to lose their jobs. He’s the one who started it. He’s the one he proposed it. People need to know that, and that’s what the White House is trying to avoid discussion about, quite frankly.
What next? I'm rubber you're glue?
Take a bow, Bob. Just when no one thought you could make a bigger fool of yourself, you managed to prove the world wrong. I think you are ready for your own show on Fox News.
