A new meme is that Obama is responsible for the sequestration because he didn't like and/or threatened vetoes against the Republican solution for ending/bypassing the sequester. Kossacks, who are always mad at Obama because bully pulpit, are pointing out that the sequestration is Obama's fault because he wouldn't take the GOP's deal. Since when at Daily Kos, a site founded and run for the advancement of the Democratic Party, more and better Democrats, do we SUPPORT REPUBLICANS OVER THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT?
Since now, apparently.

not twice blocking Republican efforts to kill the sequester, but then he wouldn't have this leverage here for his "grand bargain" would he?

Orly? Details on what a great effort it was, below.
Link, with the money quote below:
Democrats also blocked a GOP-sponsored plan to modify sequestration by providing federal agency heads with some authority to reallocate the cuts. Under current law, affected agencies must cut each of their programs by the same percentage before the end of the year. The Republican bill likewise needed 60 votes to pass; however, it did not achieve majority support. It failed 38-62, with nine Republicans — Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Susan Collins (R-ME), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dean Heller (R-NV) Mike Lee (UT), John McCain (R-AZ), Rand Paul (R-KY), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) — crossing the aisle. Two Democrats — Sens. Max Baucus (D-MT), and Mark Warner (D-VA) — voted with the GOP minority.
But but but!!!!
May I ask what the heck you're talking about? (2+ / 0-)

This could have been avoided. The president twice blocked efforts to kill the sequester. The second time with the threat of a veto. The president has never been willing to make any sort of deal that did not include some austerity.

From link above:
When he acted to save the Sequester, Obama proved that he preferred the Sequester to the alternative. When the alternative threatened by the Republicans was causing a default on the U.S. debt (by refusing to increase the debt limit), one could understand Obama’s preference (though even there I would have called the Republican bluff). The Republicans, however, had extended the debt limit in both of the cases that President Obama acted to save the Sequester in 2011.

Yes, even though the article (editorial) states that Obama wants a 'Grand Bargain' (all the details of which would've been accepted by the GOP at any point, which is why you're having such a hard time convincing us that Obama really wants these cuts), it ADMITS that the Republican 'alternative', supported by such notable (infamous) Kossacks here as
priceman, was
defaulting on the debt.
That's enough of supporting the right-wing here for today, I think.
