An artist who taught former President George W. Bush how to paint praises his nascent mastery of the canvas, saying that he’s going to go down in history as a “
great artist.”
Artist and painting instructor Bonnie Flood of Cumming, Georgia, spent four weeks giving Bush private lessons alongside his sister-in-law Maggie, wife of Marvin, in Boca Grande, Florida. The lessons lasted up to six hours every day. The president, who started off painting mostly dogs, rapidly grew more comfortable and graduated to landscapes. He signs his work “43”.
“He has such a passion for painting, it's amazing,” says Flood. “He picked it up so quick, it was amazing actually. His whole heart is in it. He's going to go down in the history books as a great artist.”
I’ll need to reserve judgment on that. But Bush is already a better painter than he was president. It’s interesting that he chooses in retirement to paint in the style of Realism, after eight years of working strictly in Dada.
