Artist and painting instructor Bonnie Flood of Cumming, Georgia, spent four weeks giving Bush private lessons alongside his sister-in-law Maggie, wife of Marvin, in Boca Grande, Florida. The lessons lasted up to six hours every day. The president, who started off painting mostly dogs, rapidly grew more comfortable and graduated to landscapes. He signs his work “43”.
I’ll need to reserve judgment on that. But Bush is already a better painter than he was president. It’s interesting that he chooses in retirement to paint in the style of Realism, after eight years of working strictly in Dada.
