This diary contains information about how to meetup with the Sandy Hook Ride on Washington riders on their way from Maryland into DC. It is based on a post from a MD bike shop along their route that's hosting a stopover/lunch for the riders. It would be great to have a group of local riders join Team 26 for their final few miles on their way to the U.S. Capitol.
The weather looks like it will be warm but showery for their 7:30am departure from Baltimore, but the rain should be gone by 11am for the last leg from College Park to DC. All are welcome to join in for the last 15 mile ride to DC or any point along the way!

Sandy Hook Ride on Washington, Schedule and Local Rider Meetup/Join-In
The SHROW will be arriving in DC on March 12. Twenty-six cyclists will ride from Sandy Hook School to the Capitol in support of common sense gun safety legislation. Proteus will be setting up a pitstop at 10am-11am for the riders. We will then join them for their last leg to downtown DC and the U.S. Capitol. Check out their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/...
The last leg to DC ride will take a moderate pace and there will be experienced riders to help guide first timers in the group. The course is mostly on paved trails, quiet residential streets, and bike lanes. Riders are welcome to join the ride along the way. Metro stops are alongside the route in several locations and Capital Bikeshare stands are can be found near the Brookland/CUA Metro station, along R Street NW, and along 15th Street NW. (Note, full-size bikes are not allowed on Metro trains during rush hour, 7-10am and 4-7pm on weekdays.)
For riders heading back to College Park, the group from Proteus will return at about 1:30pm or 2pm and arrive at the shop around 3pm. The total round-trip ride distance from College Park is about 30 miles.
The itinerary for the day is as follows (subject to slight change/delay of course):
10-11am – Arrive at Proteus Bicycles in College Park, MD (15 miles from finish)
11:00 – Leave Proteus Bicycles.

12:00 – Arrive at CaBi station at 12th and Newton St
12:15 – Florida and R streets, NW
12:20 – 15th and P streets, NW
12:30 – White House (Lafayette Park)
12:45 — possible diversion to take pictures at the Washington monument etc. if we’re running on time
1PM – Arrive at finish location at U.S. Capitol (exact location — probably on the West Front)
1:30 or 2PM – College Park group heads back to Proteus bike shop
