Senator Louis Gohmert said yesterday that we should be in more(!) wars and that we should have stayed in Viet Nam longer and we could have achieved victory. We have seen over and over and over what happens in occupied countries, the opposition grows with each passing day. Could you imagine if America was occupied and how long and hard we would fight? That is what happened in Viet Nam, Algeria and Iraq and many other countries. History is full of examples.
But aside from this, I just wonder what he thinks a "victory" in Viet Nam would have looked like? Would they have just dropped their weaponry and said "uncle"? SHEEEESH. Viet Nam, after several decades of turmoil is now a capitalist but still not free country. But, after this so-called "victory", if we could even have achieved it (doubtful), would we have had any assurances that it would have remained free?
What would have been our costs to get to this point sooner? Would the wall in Washington DC, with the list of names of US soldiers killed in Viet Nam, now circle the entire mall area? How much more blood and treasure would it have cost us? What of the broken soldiers, the physical and emotional costs?
What benefit for the US would there have been for such a "victory"? ! ! !
And, to that, he would ad more wars. Hell, we can't afford and haven't paid for, the two we just fought.
I am just having a real hard time coping with the profound stupidity of Senator Gohmerts remarks. I think he is unfit for the Senate, totally unfit.
